NZ 188
SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSTEYN 4/42
SL 383
AMLA 103
KALLIS 131 :prayer: :prayer: :prayer:
NZ 136
SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSTEYN 6/49

SA win by an innings and 59 runs
In a 2 test series[which are jokes] Dale SSSSSSTEYN
20 wickets
about 184 runs
ave 9 per wicket
strike rate of about a wicket per 16 balls
5/34 + 5/39
4/42 + 6/49
Could have been more but NZ only lost 18 wickets in the 2nd test [CUMING broken jaw]

After seeing him for a dozen overs in the first test I had thought whatta bowler
For those who have not seen him by the time the ball is delivered to pitching
he bowls like the late great MALcolm Marshall, fast with outswing.

He has in a matter of a fortnight become one of the worlds most feared bowlers.

Watch and learn.
I have spoken
The way he bowled against NZ it might prompt Lou Vincent to retire from Test cricket
and play for the Jellybacks next season.

I watched it mal. He bowled well. He also bowled to a very average batting line up. Handy - yes, one of the worlds most feared - no.

Im sure Craig Cuming would agree with me.
CUMING just got out of hospital with a plate in his jaw.
SSSSSSSSTEYN sconed him.

I've seen a bloke get his jaw smashed thanks to Paul Rofe's bowling. Wouldn't think he is one of the worlds most feared bowlers.

Exactly Rod, i also watched it, He bowled very well but lets wait and see how he goes against someone like Australia, before we start beating his drums to hard. It is becoming a common theme when we talk about up and coming South Africans and they let you down. NZ really are a pathetic test match team with the exception of Vettori and Bond (When he plays which is not much). Not one of New Zealands batsmen woud be in contention for Australia, It is one of the weakest batting line ups you will see.

Like a snake
sssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
Then he strikes.

5 young girls last night had one letter of his name on the tummys
S...T....E....Y...N
He is becoming a cult figure in South Africa.

Sadly he will be overloaded with too much cricket and amy fizzle out
as quick as he has come.
Until the inevitable he is exciting to watch

PUP your right the NZ batting is ordinary
In the 2 tests only one 50 by Fleming.

The state of NZ cricket is becoming dire..and they are in danger if becoming the Redbacks of international cricket
09 tests 28.14 ave Cummings
08 tests 16.40 ave Papps
23 tests 34.15 ave Vincent (3 100s)
106 tests 39.61 ave Fleming (9 100s)
29 tests 36.04 ave Styris (5 100s)
02 tests 11.00 ave Taylor
27 tests 30.65 ave McCullum (2 100s)
74 tests 25.77 ave Vettori (2 100s)
01 tests 0.00 ave Gillespie
04 tests 4.00 ave O'Brien
35 tests 2.00 ave Martin (20 ducks = 1 duck every 2.4 inn WORST ever, McGraths was 1 duck every 3.9 inn)
New Zealand do not have a batsmen that has averaged 40 in test cricket since Mark Richardson retired (and hes the only one to do so the past 22 years) and to look at the fringe players that did not play in this test due to non selection or injury it is not overflowing with promise, Oram, H. Marshall, How, Fulton. Of these only Peter Fulton has a first class ave of more than 36, but he is out injured (knee)

And their bowling is not much better

So bearing all of this in mind Mal, how much of a guru is Steyn after all?

Is that
Bart CUMMINGS
Ron PAPPS
and
JoHN VINCENT
batting 1-2-3

Point taken the NZ batters are ordinary
BUT
SSSSSSSSTEYN averaged 9 with the ball in the series which is still a phenominal effort

True - nine is a phenomonal effort.

But, I have seen some very ordinary bowlers here in local cricket average nine for a season, or half a season. That doesn't make them stars. One swallow doesn't make a summer ;)
