Redbacks to come LAST in everything would be a safe bet.
Can't win matches if they can't make Runs.
With Lehmann NOT playing in the 20/20 comp and already ruling himself out of their 1st pura cup match, SA will line up with one of the most PATHETIC Batting line ups of all time.

18 minutes on the field would also be nice.

The comprehensive win did not come without a downside for the Aussies, however, as Shane Watson pulled up in his final over, experiencing trouble in the left hamstring which has dogged him over the past year or so.

well there you go.

WATSON pre-season
---------------------

QUOTES " I want 18 months injury free."
Some say 18 weeks ...18 days ...18 hours ....
Since that quote he pulls a Wattostring[hamstring] which we christianed last summer
before a ball gets bowled for the season
Now he reinjures the Wattostring in the 18th over of a 20-20 game in his first game !

Just on the off chance an Australian selector reads this post or gets inFORMed about :

Shane Watson is a very good top order batsman
His bowling is adequate to diabolical at times
His fielding is safe

SW must give away bowling for up 12 months play cricket for QLD as an opening batsman
and make plenty of runs and then play for Australia as a batsman only.
If the selectors want him to start as the opening batsman for his country v SL+INDIA
in the test series then as Paul Mcartney once sang LET IT BE.

The last time [correct me if Im wrong] he returned from injury[back?] was a few years ago
and he played for Tasmania as a number 3 batsman and made a stack of runs.
Coincidently he hardly bowled a ball all that summer,

We can all argue black and blue that he IS or IF he is good enough to play Test cricket
but My opinion is he must go back to QLD and start again as a batsman only

HAMSTRUNG IN 2007 SO FAR
----------------------------

WATSON
PONTING
LEHMANN

BIG MOUTH
----------

MACGILL is in trouble again with his comments in an Australia A game
There are reports that he may be sanctioned back to the Domestic scene in 2007-2008
and may not play for Australia this summer, that would boost NSW chances

Mal, the MacGill situation is a very, very interesting one.

If they declare he is not playing for Australia this summer, his career may be all but over.

Fair enough, the selectors/CA will make the call but what then? I don't think any of the current crop of spinners would suffice (yet!) to replace MacGill. Would the selectors then opt to use Symonds/Clarke as the spin options? I still can't see them dropping him over this...

Even if he was fit Watson's bowling is rubbish. He needs to play as a batsman only but the problem he faces is that as a batsman he knows there are others around better than him. His only chance to play for Australia is to bowl as well. He is a good batsman but there are plenty of others around who are as good and some better.

Mal, I agree with you 100% in regards to Watson.

In the shorter form of the game at international level, he is a good foil for Gilchrist/Hayden and furthermore, a Watson/Hayden pairing at the top in both ODI's and Tests would free a great deal of responsibility from Gilchrist's shoulders.

I have always been in Watson's corner (rooting for the underdog, if you will), but I've finally had enough. HE MUST NOT BOWL. He can't even get through 4 overs in a Twenty20 game without breaking down! I would strongly suggest the QLD selectors place him up the order, as he is a quality batsman.

I believe that Watson is no worse than Jaques or Rogers, or whoever else is in line for the First Test.

And I agree 100% with your post

The ramifications of who opens for Australia in test matches could well affect
the winner of the Pura Cup this season
JAQUES/ROGERS/WATSON are all capable of 1000 run seasons if played throughout

Watson is a liability.

He is an allrounder. He is not a top order batsmen. AN ALLROUNDER.

He needs to spend the next season in the pura cup with the simple objective of playing most of the games.

The Red Backs have possibly the worst squad ever , wouldnt beat some district sides in Melbourne or Sydney . You take out Lehmann and Tait and you cant see where the runs and wickets are going to come from .
