We're damned if we do, damned if we don't, but IMO this is the nothing games that we need to expose our kids to for them to develop, I love what Cooper and Ferg have done for us over the years but I'd rather go down in a screaming heap having some kids playing.

We've given Hatzi a go, a game in Perth then a game against NSW is a tough initiation, we have nothing to lose by giving him more opportunity, I liked what I saw in the BBL at times and realistically an ODD isn't too much difference, he probably needs to try and bowl less "wicket" balls and work on economy, then the wickets may come, he took some big scalps in the BBL.

Agreed LM - play some kids. Hopefully they do. Absolutely tough initiation for Hatzoglou and Kelly. Both getting to bowl to Test players is invaluable and hopefully a steep learning curve for them. I thought Kelly batted well yesterday and getting time in the middle with Carey and facing quality bowling (which no one would be getting in Grade cricket) is gold.

Tend to agree also - although Ferg looked good in Perth and Cooper was run out twice, I doubt either will play again for Redbacks. We have three one day games to go now and cant make finals, so just play couple of other young ones and see how they go. You do need some senior players to help them out, but still have Carey and Head there.

I know Dizzy is impressed by Ryan Gibson, watching him every week he is top bloke and batting amazingly all year, reckon he plays next Friday.

Ferg and Cooper are going to be 37 and 35 respectively in November, we need to draw the line somewhere, we could probably still make room for one of them but they will probably both retire at the same time so then we'll have two spaces to fill.

We could still find room in the Strikers list for both of them, I don't like talking negatively about either of them as they're probably my two favourite SA players over the past decade, Tom Cooper made the shield team of the year only 12 months ago.

Gibson definitely deserves a look - he had a great 2nd X1 game and at least he's a mature-age ready made player.

Gibson is 26/27 years old. For me, this is the perfect age to be given a go, they are so intent on giving the 20 year olds a go, when guys at this age know their game so well and have 8 years at this level if good enough. Could say the same about Kelvin Smith at 26 now would be at his best, hopefully comes back next year too.

some bloke who's name escapes me is making his debut for the redbacks today, described as a left arm leggie, in other days would have been known as bowling "chinaman", doubt we will hear that description in 2021
