I haven't looked into it, but apparently they have 'pre-seeded' the teams for the super 8s, meaning that provided you make the super 8, it doesn't matter if you qualify 1st or 8th, it then goes back to the pre-tournament rankings.

This is what has now created the scenario where Australia can deliberately lose to Scotland, cause it doesn't matter if we finish 1st or 2nd in our group, or seeding is the same for the super 8s.

Or something like that.

What a farce.

What happens if you don't qualify then? Does the other club absorb your seeding?

Ok, I've looked into it a bit more.

They take the seeding of the team they replaced.

So pre-tournament, group B was seeded as follows:
B1 - England
B2 - Australia
B3 - Namibia
B4 - Scotland
B5 - Oman

So if Australia goes through, we go through as B2 no matter what.
If England miss out, and Scotland get in, Scotland will take the B1 slot, even if Australia finishes above them.

Crazy! lol

The logic apparently was to allow fans to book travel requirements (flights, hotels, etc) in advance for both the group and super 8 stages, with more certainty of knowing where their teams will be playing, provided they make it through.

Sounds more like they logic is around maximising "big matches" and ensuring that the "better sides" avoid each other until the pointy end.

Ronny McDonald is a genius

For the first and only time ever I'm looking forward to seeing The Spud opening the batting bowling and taking the gloves for the last 10 overs.
