Wouldn't it be better to wait and see how they go on the South African tour first.

This is something that baffles me. We have a much tougher task in South Africa than England and it is before we go to England yet people just keep going on about the Ashes. I understand the significance of the Ashes series but i am personally more interested to see how we go against South Africa in a couple of weeks.

Well said mate. I am really looking forward to that series. We will be playing the best team in the world in their own country so it will be a huge challenge. The Ashes can wait for now.

At least the Ashes will show us who has deteriorated the most over the past few years.

If he dosnt make runs tonight he shouldnt be a cert. One score over 50 in 8 tests isnt good enough. I think he should still go but he is on a knifes edge.

There is no doubt Hussey will go if he makes runs or not, but can't see him being selected in the first Test if he doesn't make runs tonight.

Hussey will go. Hussey will play. Hussey will fail to hit the ball off the square. Just can't watch him bat anymore.

Finally some sanity!

Currently 38 runs from 125 balls when the South Africans were belting it around.... I'm not sure if even a scratchy century in the 2nd innings of a dead rubber is enough after failing most of his last 15 tests.

Everyone simply says "he will go" but when it comes to sensible reasons why the silence is deafening. There is no sensible reason, it's solely based on his reputation from 2005-2007

Look, he probably will go to the Ashes and the only reason will be that there's no Philip Hughes-style stand out for the middle order in the State teams. Not a healthy sign.

Hodge is good, but he's not the future of Australian cricket, and is considerably older than Hughes.

I believe Nick Hodge will be busy playing lawn bowls. Short memories these Bushrangers. Obviously didn't remember what happened to Dean Jones and Wayne Phillips. These selectors are sensitive chaps after all.

Here we go again.

So two days ago you said he had one more innings to prove to you that he should go to England but now because it is a dead rubber (Which you knew when you posted it) and he is batting slowly it is not enough for you even if he got a hundred.

Come on Hondo a little bit of consistency would be nice. Katich was only batting marginally quicker yet i do not see any comments on him scratching around? We both have our opinions on Hussey's spot in the team and they are well known.

One thing i do agree with you on there being no obvious replacements for spots in the middle order when a position comes up. I think there is a bunch of 4/5 who could be in contention if a spot does come up and none of them are certain starters like Hughes was.

Katich strike rate 43, Hussey 34. Katich average for the series is 43, Hussey's is 26. Hussey is flat out trying to keep up with Mitchell Johnson, let alone the Kat.
