Interesting that Dan Harris gets a call-up following 2 grade tons however has only returned 26 runs @ 13 in the 2nd XI. Plant 1 ton for the Bays, 1 vs Sri Lanka and 1 in the 2nd XI where he's scored 240 @ 48 (and competition's leading runscorer in the CA Cup last year). On the other hand Cam Borgas one ton in the 2nd XI and he's back in the mix.

Worst 4 day player in the country. Man oh man he is hopeless, time to get some youth in there.

Despite his magnificent 146 v WA in the f/cup game nothings changed
For a player of his abundance of talent to average 20 odd in 3 seasons of p/cup cricket
is simply not good enough.
I am sure if his mates SOOTERS/BULLDOG asked him Matt would agree about his p/c form.
A few people are having a go at NFC but if you read the above quote it has nothing
to do with his o/d form.

I watch the SA games passionately and would love to see Matt make me eat my words.
On livelier p/cup decks he is still a liability in the slips cordons
On flatter o/d decks he gets a start and cashes in.

Lets not forget he has made the most runs out of our top bat six batsman in Pura Cup as well. MEL and nfc have no idea .

If there was a young opening batsman to take his place it would be easier to drop Elliott. I had big hopes for Jason Borgas at the start of the season but it appears hes not ready to be a consistent performer at first class level just yet.

So i think its fair enough Elliott stays in the side for the time being.

Of our specialist batsmen Herb is ranked second on this season's PC averages - at 29.0 its not great but its better than most of his batting team-mates

So to call for his head now because of what happened in 2005-06 and 2006-07 is cutting off your nose to spite your face

Besides, what will being dropped from PC do to his confidence and form in the FC?

Most cricket purists know that first innings runs are worth a lot more than second innings runs. Herb's efforts in first innings' this season have been:

V Victoria 42 (top score of specialist batsmen)
v Tasmania 55 (top score of specialist batsmen)
V New South Wales 6
v Western Australia 58
V Queensland 78 (top score of specialist batsmen)
v Western Australia 26 (top score of specialist batsmen)

In all, 265 @ 44.17 and being the topscoring specialist batsman 67% of the time.

The reason why NFC /JACKPOT JIM /MAL will keep at this topic is because
the people that are defending Matts p/cup record need to find a white flag

Mal there's a difference between defending his PC record and saying right now is not the time to drop him, given the circumstances.

His record in 2007-08 stacks up against other batsmen, his FC form is outstanding and there is not an obvious option. Plant has many, many years ahead of him to get his opportunity.

NFC needs to start being balanced on our players - some guys he attacks others he come up with excuses for (such as Deitz - averaging 20 but never been lucky enough to have his own thread).

Exactly what hondo said. I'm not defending him just pointing out that there is not a better option. He isn't doing very well in the 4 day games but he is still doing as well or better than any other specialist batsman.

Also, as said numerous times on here, Herb has been the topscoring upper order batsman in the first innings of four of our six Pura Cup matches this season. Noone is performing as well as Herb. Why select him for the knife?
