My favourite stat I've read today- no other batter in test history has opened more often (93 innings) and averaged less than Zak Crawley (31.06).

Out for 14 will make that even lower.

When he faced us in the Ashes of 2023 he was averaging 28 but was Englands highest run scorer of the series averaging 53. That was in England. In 2021/2 in three tests in Australia he had 6 digs averaging 27.

They must not have anyone else making a case for his spot.

Well the top three 2025 County Div 1 run scorers are openers (and former England openers), Hameed, Sibley and Lyth so there's definitely other options to replace Crawley but obviously England love the Duckett and Crawley partnership too much to break it up . They have been a very successful opening partnership for England .

England with a forth innings target of 374 will have to obliterate a 123 year record to win the test.

Gill has scored the second most runs by a captain in a test series (754), only behind Bradman (810 v England in 1936/37). He's also scored the second most runs by and Indian in a test series, only behind Gavaskar (774 v WI in 1971).

Other Day three stats-

Washington Sundar’s batting spree at the end has probably won India the match … we will see.
