In the case of Ferguson and Mennie they were 50/50 selections who both looked like boys against men, more so than any debutants I've seen in a long time.

Ferguson isn't being dropped just because of that one test, it's also because of what has happened in the last four days with both his performance and his nearest rivals performance. The Ferguson non selection was the easiest of all the decisions the selectors had to make

Their dropping is just the selectors fixing the initial mistake of selecting them imho Handscombe and Sayers have come in a test late

Maddinson has a huge upside, he was an opener when he made his 1st class debut for NSW and can bowl some handy left arm slow if need be.

Yeah I agree his got lots of upside and I'm a Maddinson fan.

It's good to see the selectors actually have an eye to the future which I have called for a while now.

Just the other guys selected were smashing the door down, Maddinson not so much.

I hope he does well, averages 40+ in his test career and watch everyone continue to scream nsw bias

I reckon they should go in with four seamers with the pink ball. Lyon is bowling medium pace anyway. Give Gaz a rest and get Smiffy to do some slows to break up the same-o same-o.

I watched a press conference earlier where they interviewed Matthew Wade. I learnt that he is colourblind and he said that sometimes he initially has trouble picking the pink ball up when batting but once he sees it he's fine. I wondered how that has effected him with his infamous wicketkeeping blunders that posters on here love to ridicule him about. Not that he'd use his colourblindness as an excuse but just intriguing as to how/if it would effect him just a little bit causing him to make a crucial blunder.

Du Plessis fined for ball tampering apparently. Does raise the question about why we bother having rules if the ICC are going to be so toothless in policing them. Whether people think it makes a difference or not, clearly Du Plessis did and in cricket, getting the ball to swing even a little more can be all the difference. This is also his second offense. Final wash up seems to be that repeatedly cheating is ok in cricket.

I'd say the South African reaction to the initial allegation indicates he's guilty as charged. Innocent souls don't carry on the way they have.

The ICC are the biggest, most farcical, embarrassing joke of a governing sport organization in the world.
The last few decades have been littered with numerous unsatisfactory and blatantly biased resolutions that required far stronger and more definitive actions to be undertaken.

So who is heading in on day 1?

I'm planning to be in the cas about 12, couple of heart starters and head over the bridge about 1:30.

Yep, lunch down there, I think in the John Halbert room, then the rest of the day in the Stadium Club drinking on the boss.

If there's a members pass floating around that could get me behind the vale of secrecy, that'd be great.
