I don't think Botha is a positive appointment, then again, I can't stand him so I'm probably a bit biased. 5 tests isn't much for him to hang his hat on, especially when it is the only form of the game that we aren't competitive at and the most important.

He obviously impressed during the Bigbash behind the scenes.

Maybe someone playing for the cash will means he busts his arse to get another contract somewhere else in the world.

Is there anything stopping us signing someone else as well?

I think it's a great move, I rate him and think he will do very well in our first class environment. Will stiffen up our lower order and will get wickets. So many people on here with no idea......

Yep hasnt played a test for over 2 years and had a stellar 5 test career. Couldn't get a test in a side with the worst spinners in world cricket. They picked duds like Adams, Boje and Pat Symcox over him thats how well they rated him.
Plus he is a cheating chucker, but we have no idea.
I hope the small crowd that attend the matches heckle him and yell out "no ball" every delivery he bowls.

But is he worth asking our current Captain to step aside so this saffa can take the reins?

I'm not so sure and probably on face value I would prefer Steve Smith for his batting as we are about as strong as a sheet of glass in that department

I just think there are dozens of better prospects in Australia and im sure im not the only one who thinks this. Judging by the feedback in the media id say about 80% are against it and some of those people are way more qualified than you or I.

I would really prefer the Redbacks to recruit younger players from interstate and even sacrifice another year or two building a squad for the future in shield cricket, nothing personal against Botha it just seems we recruit for patch up jobs, its just like an AFL team looking for a quick fix,and not worry for years down the track.

Perhaps they feel that Klinger is too much of a "nice guy", perhaps they feel some arrogance and grunt is required. They obviously have done their homework on what they think they need and gone with this chap.
One would've thought a top line batsman would've been more apt.

I would have thought starting to develop promising youngsters within the grade system would have been a better idea.

Obviously the senior staff at AO dont think much of the kids around the place and it is easier to try for the quick fix. Which has worked extremely well for us in the past.
