Tim Southee has been dropped from New Zealand's squad for the second Test against South Africa in Hamilton, starting on Thursday. After a tough first Test in Dunedin, in which he conceded 140 runs and failed to take a wicket, Southee will return to the Plunket Shield to work on technique and form.

New Zealand have beefed up their bowling with the addition of Mark Gillespie and the re-inclusion of Brent Arnel, who was part of the squad for the first Test but was not included in the final 12.

2nd test starts tomorrow

Injury may keep AB de Villiers out of the side after he sprained his ankle during practice on Tuesday, though he tweeted that he 'should be ready'. JP Duminy and Robin Peterson both batted in the nets on Wednesday and should de Villiers be unfit, Duminy is likely to make a return in the longest format. The rest of the line-up should be unchanged with Imran Tahir set to play, in anticipation of turn later on in the match, and Marchant de Lange to miss out, despite the green strip.

NZ were 2/133 and are now 7/133.

Make that 7/137, Gillespie just edged a four between second and third slip. Woeful batting

Woeful shots by the two set batsman. First was McCullum playing a hook shot that went straight to deep square leg off Steyn, and then Taylor playing a woeful shot to give Smith a catch at first. Considering they got sent in, they should have not played these shots on such a pitch, especially Taylor straight after the wicket of McCullum
