Jayawardene (Keeper) was about the worst..Lyon kept throwing it up and changed the line so he had to hit from further outside off. 12 runs for a wicket..take it every time

Anyway good to see Lyon pick up a wicket after he was getting attacked. He came back well after going for 1/12 of his first over. Also Harris was bowling very well, good lines with the new ball.
Anyway lets get them on there way and start to move down this total, me thinks this pitch will turn into a mine field in a few days.

Perfect for test cricket IMHO. Give the bowlers a chance to get early wickets, then the batsmen can score runs a little easier. Should always be able to take wickets and score runs through good cricket, but batting should then get progressively harder from around day 3 or so.

But excellent work from the bowlers. Johnson might be maligned, but 2/48 at 3 RPO is ok. Took the last couple, but stopped them putting on a cheap 20 run partnership. His figures would look much better too if Watto had swallowed that chance.

Some comments earlier either here or on Cricinfo about Copeland being too slow and doesn't get enough movement? The same things were said about G. McGrath for years before people realised he was taking too many for it to be a coincidence. For the first time in a while I feel ok about our bowling prospects. This group of 5 all either have proven themselves or look super promising. Now we just need a couple of the young bats to start making runs.

Perfect day for Australia. Let's hope these two come back tomorrow in the same vein and make what is now a good opening stand a really decisive one. Would do wonders for Hughes personally I think, but also for their pairing.

Agreed, was very impressed with Hughes today, would live him to go on and get a biggie. Pitch looks a 350-400 deck, lets bat them out of it

I think the fashion he gets the runs is as important. Those scores against South Africa when he first came in I didn't think were too impressive. Some of the shots were low percentage and only worked because his eye was in nicely. I'd love to see him make runs with far less risk. Even a risk free 80 before going for a little too much would be far better than a streaky 150.

Phil Hughes will never find it easier
Even if he made 200+, it wont convince me
Get him against faster bouncy new ball bowlers and he will be back to his jumpy turvey form

Youth policy... But honestly Nic Maddinson would be a more solid player IMO... No chance ahead of the golden child though...

Katich is still better than any other opener floating around...
