Glenn Maxwell scores a fifty off 19 balls, eclipsing the twenty year record of D Hookes (21 balls).

Match went down to the final over (three off three balls in fact), with last pair Holland and Siddle batting...

Slower ball Siddle scampers a single.

Two off two balls.

Full toss Holland easy single.

One off one ball.

Tippy go...

SIDDLE 25 (16 balls)

VIC WIN OFF THE LAST BALL.

TA 6/258[45]

COSGROVE 120[113] sensational on a dodgy deck earlier on ,very good OD player
BAILEY 107[111] getting very close to International standard now
TA were 2/7 then 3/228

9/259 [45]
VI were about 4/60 [20] when resumimg
QUINNEY 36[27] magnificent counter attack
HILL 30[36] handy effort
WADE 67[103] slow early when the deck was bowler friendly
MAXWELL 61[27] this innings had to be seen to be believed,Ronchiesque!
SIDDLE 25*[16] finished off the 2 last 2 overs in style
HOLLAND 5*[4] ice cool in the last wkt partnership

An amazing last ball win to the Victoria

GLEN MAXWELL
61 runs off 27 balls
50 off 19 balls
was shaking his head in the last over, that he got out with about 19 off 15 needed

____________________________________________________________________________
This was the sweetest big hitting timing Ive seen by a player, and Ive seen a lot of cricket
____________________________________________________________________________

He stood still mostly and played some magnificent shots
Ive been watching him bat in the 20/20 games and wondered why he got in the team
He didnt click at 20/20 , but tonight he clobbered them in a Ryobi Cup game

23/2/2011
Ryobi Cup
VI V NS
I suggest we all watch MAXwhirlwind

Glen MAxwelL
Quotes from a recent article on THAT innings

A few boys whispered in my ear, its going to be your night tonight, I try to ignore that stuff, Ive been in those situations B4 and mucket it up trying to go too hard too early

I got a couple of boundaries in a row off James Faulkner and generally thats been my undoing where I get ahead of myself and try and play one too many shots

But last night I played safer cricket instead of basically throwing it away and hitting the ball straight down long ons throat which Ive been renown to do

I had no idea of the record

MAxwelL record

O/D
5 innings
146 runs
36.50 ave
165.04 strike rate

B4 last nights game
85 runs
28-33 ave
137 strike rate

So thats an impressive start to a career, and a phenominal strike rate
However his 20/20 stats are dreadful

20/20
4 innings
13 runs
3.25 ave
s/rate 76.47

Interesting to see his progress from here on

NS 125
WARNER 0[1]
FORREST 34[66] too slow, batted like a batsman who was thinking of his future and not the team
THORNELY 14[29] too slow, Im sorry but another who didnt play a team innings
ABBOTT 20[15] teenager who played for the team
HOPES 4/16[5.2] and people are arguing on safooty about who is better Hastings or Christian

FORREST and THORNLEY should have played with a lot more intent , by playing as they did they gave thier team virtually no HOPEs of winning

QL 4/118
HOPES 41[56] and people on safooty are arguing who is better Hastings or Christian
BARSBY 13[26] debut, son of Trevor, batted fairly
ROBINSON 7[20] 2nd game, looks ok, might be a handy 4 day player
BURNS 24*[39] brilliant hooker/puller, might be ok
FLOROS 5*[3] is he the best fieldsman in domestic cricket ?

How could NS lose so easily to a QL team that looks like a 2nd eleven team ?
Look at this no name team
HOPES
BARSBY
ROBINSON
REARDON
BURNS
FLOROS
HARTLEY
NESER
IPSON
RIMMINGTON
MCDERMOTT

With 1 game each to play the top 3 ladder in the Ryobi Cup
VI 30
TA 27
NS 25

WA V TA... next game in Perth, TA win they play VI in the final
VI V NS... NS need TA to lose and then beat VI in the last game to make the final

Todays loss by NS against the no name QL team could be very costly

What happens if this game is abandoned ?
does the game get replayed ?
Or does VI win because they finished top ?
