To me if it's one change only I don't think that'll be good enough, but then too many changes might be a bit over board  :?

Voges out definitely. He's not a part of the National team's next success period. Get someone in there now ready for the Ashes.

Can't believe some are talking up Jake Lehman, he has only just started playing regular shield cricket....don't rush him

Yeah I think he's still a fair way off international selection. But with the way he's playing he's in the mix in the future.

As one who mentioned him, I'm not suggesting he's seriously in the mix either. My point is compared to Head, he's played a third of the games Head has (14 v 47), almost scored half the runs 1322 vs 2772, has scored more 1st class tons (5 v 3) and has a 15 run better average (49 v 34).

If people are talking up Head (???) Lehman more than deserves to be mentioned too.

Head was Shield player of the year last year which IMO puts him at the top of the tree, means he must have influenced games more than everyone else in the country.
When comparing Head to Lehman you have to remember Lehmans whole career has been in a good Redbacks side, Head started in a crap one.
Lehman might make a 3rd eleven Australian side

In reverse order this is the list of who is guaranteed to be picked next test (1st named, 1st out)

Voges - not part of the future, four tests without a run
Mennie - when your stock ball is under 130 you need the control and movement of a Philander at Test level, unfortunately you don't - you've got a baggy green though
Ferguson - wrong side of 30 Burns has the test runs that you - you've got a baggy green though
Burns - right side of 30 but you need runs son if you survive
Lyons - should play but mate you're on thin ice
Neville - can't miss stumpings like that, if Whiteman cashes in this week....
Khawaja - two 50s would be stiff to miss out

The rest are locks

Patterson for Voges
Bird for Mennie
Hanscombe for Ferguson - but would like to see Ferg get one more shot

Bancroft for Burns if the selectors want to make a statement

Bird over Sayers because he can play that third seamer role of tie them up, bowl in the channel hitting top of off, that all good Aust sides have had in the past: Reiffel, Clark, Walker, May (when we played 2&2 in the mid 90s), Siddle in 13-14. Allows Starc and Hazelwwod to be used in shorter attacking bursts. Sayers should get next crack if either Starc or Hazelwood get injured.

Rest should survive

All IMO

Hazelwood is the player needed to perform the role you have earmarked for Bird. To me Sayers opens the bowling into the wind.

I heard on the radio that he was to be investigated for ball tampering.
Thought it may have been more serious, like taking the bell out or something.

When does the next test squad get announced? The way it's going every former player etc is having their two bobs worth on who should be in or out. It's almost like an election or magarey. Tally up all the votes, preferences etc that each player gets...

It's amusing to see some state biases come to the fore in such opinions. Queenslanders saying Burns stays and Voges and Ferguson have to go. Even suggesting Chris Lynn is the next best option if fit!

I just want to see players who place high value on their wicket while at the same time having good game sense to know when they can attack and when they need to defend etc.

Call me old fashioned but Nevill stays for me. Makes one error and it was line ball he'd get him out anyway. Good Keepers take priority over average keeper and good bat.

Rather a player who can convert 50's into 100's any day and yeah I know at this stage we want player who can get to 50 but 100's is where it's at.

Yep, the ICC need to ban players sucking mints, chewing chewies or having saliva in their mouths. Furthermore, no one is allowed to wear sunscreen from now on either!

FFS....

If Sayers picks up another bag this match he's in the next test. South Australia and NSW games will have the most media attention.

At the Gabba, you'd think he's a good chance to pick up at least a 3 or 4 wicket haul in the 1st dig (hopefully).

So what is actually the reason why Patterson isn't in the test side at the moment? I would've thought he'd be in front of Siddle.

Pattinson only started bowling about 12 weeks ago after a long lay off IIRC.

Stress fractures in his back from February.

Pattinson (James) has just returned from injury - only played the one game.
Patterson (Kurtis) is the batsman everyone believes should be in the side.
