What we have now is a lack of people in the State system who are screaming pick me like we have had in the past and that i feel is a major contributor.

Have to agree there somewhat, I can remember the likes of Haydos, Siddons and Boof getting double ton after double ton and still not getting a look in, we don't have consistent big run-scorers atm or bowlers rtaking bags of wickets continuosly.
I like Hilf as a player but honestly, why the hell did he get to play in every test, he never looked dangerous and his bowling is pretty reduntant to left handers, by the time any of their right-handers got in, we were buggered and all of our bowlers had bowled at least 15 overs each.

I agree with LM we miss the form boat. Khawaja should have played first test he now would have 6 or 7 innings under his belt. Copeland is steamrolling opponents but we get stuck with hilfys pies. Pick guys in form pretty easy job. Say we need a bowler you go through ss records and pick the best performed bowler. Not rocket science. A disgrace to think khawaja only got a chance because of injury, while they are picking guys like smith and hughes whos form at ss wasnt great.

good point, why review only when there is an appeal? every ball, to be fair, should be looked at.

Klinger would've had ten tests under his belt by now aswell and probably wouldn't have lost his touch during the break.

Listening to abc today they were talking about hughes' dumping in england. Just shows how screwed the selectors are. The story was that mj was bowling rubbish and the selectors were worried that he would get carved up so instead of dropping him they bought in watto for support. Only trouble was north was making tons so they needed to find a spot for watto so they dropped a guy averaging 50 and who had destroyed the best bowler in the world on his home decks(steyn). Obviously watto did well and has kept opening whilst hughes' confidence was sapped and hasnt been the same since. Hope the kid gets some form. Who knows hughes may have had a poor series and been dropped anyway but to drop him after a couple of tour games was a joke. All because mj wasnt bowling well.

just to be totally parochial, (apart from the retiring champions like warne, gilchrist, mcgrath & a couple of other match winners) that we now have a weakened team, perhaps moving the cricket acadamy to brisbane was a mistake

Things is in the end when those champions did retire, there had been nothing really put in place a few seasons prior to continue the dominance, fair enough guys like Warne/McGrath dont come along everyday of the week but more i believe could have been done. I was a great supporter of the Australian A side as it gave the 2nd best 11 in the country exposure to International cricket, albeit one day fixtures.

More should have been put in place by the ACB to ensure that we had some adequate replacements groomed to come in, both in batting and bowling

Johnson has had 2 good spells for the series, I admit his spell in Perh was one of the best I have seen re swing bowling in many a year, Hilf, honest as he comes, sorry just aint got it, have changed my opinion on Siddle, think apart from the Adelaide Test where he was told to bowl that short crap he has been our most consistent bowler for the series and will develop into a very good first change bowler. Lets be honest we have no spinners that would even threaten the batsman from Holland, I think the selectors made the mistake in not playing Hauritz, perhaps one day the real story may get out why he was dropped, as for the batsman, totally out of form and questions must be asked why, too many being caught behind the wicket and as I type that another goes in that area.

I remember the Aussies getting belted by England here in 1971 but this is far and beyond the biggest pasting I have seen of an Australian side in Ashes in my 52 years

Supposedly it was because he had a falling out with Ponting.

This side, honestly has no discipline when batting, throw the bloody bat here, throw it there, have some damn pride for the baggy green, perhaps some of these guys should be dropped for their performances, not so much in not getting runs but their sheer recklessness in their batting
