Too much international cricket, t20 taking over and international players not playing more SS cricket

Disagree. Same amount of international cricket as any other year, T20 exposes different players and international players rarely get games in SS. I don't think that is the cause of our demise.
I think we don't play in-form players, we miss too many windows of opportunity, we don't use any player rotations.

well the question must be asked, 1. Why dont we have in form players and 2. Why are we not picking in form players from the SS to play for Australia, hell Hughes comes into a test side when his highest score was not much more 20

Think we'll have to eat some humble pie and accept that England are a better TEAM than Australia.

The selectors certainly have to take alot of the blame, which they won't do (and never will). They have to stop looking at players reputations and fill the side with Form players.

Disagree LM. I remember as a kids the internationals playing about 4 or 5 shield games most summers and whereas now you are lucky if Ponting, Clarke and the like have played 4 or 5 games in the last 5 years. It is the same thing for state cricketers playing Grade cricket it doesn't happen enough. Why a big bas game is scheduled anywhere on a Saturday is beyond me. They should be making the most of this time to get State players into Grade comps as they draw great crowds on the weeknights in January.

True, there's no Lara Bingle in TEAM.

BTW, they should have played this Test in Brisbane ... absolutely pissing down up there.

There's at least half a dozen players averaging 50+ in the shield comp atm, we should start by looking at them regardless of who they are or where they are from. There's some pretty impressive bowling averages in there also.
It's really not that hard, if a player is performing at shield level he should be able to take the next step up, the ball still comes around the same pace, sure there would be less loose balls but that's where the patience comes into it.

Mate, that would've been in the early 90's when we hosted a touring side in the summer and ventured out once during the winter months to India, Pakistan or England. We've been number one with a similar schedule since then, the workload has increased since twenty years ago but not in the last decade.

Yep, thats why India, South Africa and England are doing so poorly now, they never play games of 20/20 cricket in their domestic comps. 20/20 is just being used as an excuse.

Agreed we have been number 1 for a while but it is now that we are feeling the effect of the last 10 years of a different schedule for our international cricketers. What we have now is a lack of people in the State system who are screaming pick me like we have had in the past and that i feel is a major contributor.

The waughs, mcgrath, warne and pOnting used to play numerous SS games a year, thus making regular SS players play grade cricket. That makes SS runs more valuable and worthy as more international players are playing and they are harder to come by.
