Wow! just saw the highlights this morning, was a fantastic innings.

Great innings but strauss really has no idea of field placings

Strauss is the most overrated captain ever.

As soon as the pressure is on, he goes to pieces, that's why the Ashes wee so painful, because we were so. so ordinary that he didn't get exposed as the mediocre captain that he is.

Skipper Shahid Afridi took five wickets to help Pakistan overcome a scare at the hands of Canada and clinch a hard-fought 46-run win in their World Cup Group A match at R. Premadasa stadium.

Pakistan, bowled out for just 184 in 43 overs under overcast skies, hit back with the ball by dismissing Canada, who at one point were 104-3, for 138 in 42.5 overs, with Afridi finishing with 5-23 in his 10 overs.

Afridi now has 14 wickets in three wins in as many matches and is the leading wicket-taker in the World Cup with 14 victims as his side edged closer to the quarter-finals.

But Afridi was angry at his team's sloppy performance with the bat.

"I think sometimes we need some partnerships and that's what we were missing. We're not going to repeat this batting performance again," he said.

Canada captain Ashish Bagai, whose team have yet to make a total of 150 in the tournament, said his team had let themselves down.

"Fighting is one thing but getting over the line is obviously taking it to another level. We had a good chance today to show everybody what we've put in and we fell short."

With Canada well placed after Jimmy Hansra (43) and Zubin Surkari (27) adding an invaluable 60 for the fourth wicket, Afridi returned for his second spell to take four wickets in 17 deliveries to seal the victory.

In his first spell of six overs he had dismissed Canada skipper Ashish Bagai (16).

Off-spinner Saeed Ajmal, who took 1-31, dismissed Surkari to give Pakistan the first breakthrough before Afridi ran through the remaining batting.

Afridi, who recorded Pakistan's all time best World Cup figures of 5-16 against Kenya, bowled Rizwan Cheema (four) with the last ball of the 35th over, before bowling Hansra and Jimmy Baidwan off successive deliveries in the 37th.

More so than Ricky Ponting? I think not, brilliant cricketer but a very ordinary captain, in the past few years when he hasn't had the great cricketing minds playing around him that he once did, he's really been exposed.

Disagree. Strauss i have watched closely this world cup. when the pressure has been on, he has been extremely poor in everything he does. Even his demeanour starts to look poor (which is not the norm for Andrew Strauss). Ponting has had a shit test side and had bowlers such as Mitch who can not bowl one side of the wicket, no captain can set fields to that. For mine, Pontings the better captain. Obviously everyone can see it whichever way they choose to so its a bit of an unknown to who is the better captain

NZ v Zimmas starting soon. I give the zimmas a silly chance in this one. NZ are very ordinary, think their record is 3 wins from last 20 starts, including 11 losses in a row.

Ponting's troubles have been more to do with the lack of ability in the team. Ponting is actually a better captain than people give him credit for. His bowling changes and field placings are pretty good. Apart from that, what else can a captain do? He can't make his guys better bowlers or batsmen suddenly. Certainly not his fault his bowlers aren't good enough to bowl to the plan or the field, not his fault the other batsmen haven't been making enough runs when it matters. Only think he could do better is make more runs himself.
