ODI - Afghanistan v Pakistan (10/2/12)

Dreams rarely come to fruition at such breathless speeds. After winning their way through five divisions in two years, gaining a berth in the World Twenty20, and dominating better established Associates and Affiliates in the four-day format, Afghanistan have reached base camp - an ODI against a Test-playing nation. Barring an upset of the sort that can only involve Pakistan, Afghanistan will most definitely struggle in their first real audition in the one-day format, but to focus on the result at this momentous juncture would be to miss the point completely.

From Cricinfo, I have surmised:

Players to watch:
Hamid Hassan, 24-year old bowler, can swing the ball both ways at 140 kmph. May still be recovering from injury during the match though.

Mohamed Shahzad 24-year old wicketkeeper batsman, has three hundreds and three fifties in ODI cricket already (although this is against mainly associate teams), and gets on with it (even his first class strike rate is a tick under 80).

Made 195, Pakistan got it in the 37th over, Younis Khan 70 not out.

Not as disgraceful as some of the early Zimbabwe and Bangladesh ODI's, so there's certainly hope there...

Ive seen bigger primary school ovals than that shit hole they played on. Disgrace that International cricket is played at these venues.

It was that small that the medium pacers were starting their run up down neat the fence.
Both sides wouldnt have made 120 at an Aussie ground

Small ground has to make it easier for the less skilled side (Zimbabwe) to score runs...as their couple of decent batsmen did

For you MP....

Thami Tsolekile has been identified as the successor to Mark Boucher in Cricket South Africa's (CSA) first decisive move to find a replacement wicketkeeper. Tsolekile was named as one of 22 contracted players for the 2012-13 season, the first time CSA have contracted a second wicketkeeper in 13 years since contracts were first awarded in 1998.
