Taylor won't bat in the second dig, and is likely out until the home ODI series against the Saffers. Thigh strain.

12/5 now

I looked at the score I earlier this morning. It was 3/12 or something, I checked at lunchtime and the score was 3/12 again...thought it was rain....didn't know they lost 10 wickets.

Brendon McCullum will lead New Zealand in the ODI and T20 series against Zimbabwe, in place of Ross Taylor who has been ruled out due to a calf injury he sustained during his century in the only Test in Napier.

The hosts have picked four uncapped players - left-arm seamer Michael Bates, legspinner Tarun Nethula, allrounder Andrew Ellis and wicketkeeper-batsman Tom Latham in the ODI squad. Also in the squad is Dean Brownlie, who played in the Tests in Australia, but BJ Watling, who scored his maiden Test ton in the ongoing Test in Napier, has been left out.

New Zealand ODI squad: Brendon McCullum (capt), Michael Bates, Doug Bracewell, Dean Brownlie, Andrew Ellis, Martin Guptill, Tom Latham, Nathan McCullum, Kyle Mills, Tarun Nethula, Rob Nicol, Tim Southee, Kane Williamson.

New Zealand T20 squad: Brendon McCullum (capt), Michael Bates, Doug Bracewell, Dean Brownlie, Colin de Grandhomme, James Franklin, Martin Guptill, Ronnie Hira, Nathan McCullum, Kyle Mills, Rob Nicol, Jacob Oram, Tim Southee, Kane Williamson.

This Nicol can play was only his fifth ODI, second hundred, and took 4/19 in the other match against ZIM.

Should be good to see where he is against better quality opposition.

FWIW, the talk of McCullum being unable to keep for injury, he's doing it in the ODI's...

NZ on for about 400 here against Zim in the 3rd one dayer!

Square boundaries only 60 meters one side and 50 the other.

Currently 0/22 of 3 overs. ZIM fielding is terrible.

Yeah there a pretty young squad. In each game different players have shown a bit they just struggle to put it together as a team and consistently. Their really poor in the field which doesnt help and side when your already going to struggle with bat and ball.

Problem is there experience players such as Taylor and Taibu are very inconsistent as well. Imho Ireland would be more competitive than the current Zim side

Update!

NZ 0/40 (5)

The NZ opener Rob Nicol looks a very handy type, typical New Zealander bats well, very strong, hit hard, bowls his part time off spin as the 5th 6th bowler and a very handy fielder.

The dropped catch off McCullum was terrible. They're fielding, as mentioned, is terrible. But I couldn't say they weren't trying hard.

To pad Nicol's stats early in his ODI career, and to hit a struggling McCullum back into form.

Seriously though, the most talented young ZIM quick is Brian Vitori, who had 0-103 off 9 overs, before picking up a wicket with his last ball.

Terrible.
