Would like them too, good player & has proven he can bat at top level.

If M North was making runs again I would consider picking him for India as his spin would be handy but he aint in the runs & too old so thats a no go.
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

Dear god no. Only thing he's proven at Test and First Class level is that he's not any good. Has a very average first class record and we all remember the farcical demise last summer in the Test side. I assume he's made some runs in the teeball comp again to have people mentioning his name?

As for North   Should be dropped from the WA team at the moment.

Like I said was left field, i was just trying to think of someone who has some experience and has been there before, instead of continuing to expose young players to test cricket before they are ready.

Understand the point but Marsh was exposed himself before he was ready (he'll never be ready) and look what happened. He's not the answer because he is no good.

Bit of an interesting time now with the retirements of Ponting and Hussey. Who will step up? Tough to replace 20000 runs and 60 centuries. Biggest problem we have is that there aren't blokes bashing the door down with mountains of runs demanding selection.

As I said earlier, great opportunity for someone to put their hand up in the 2nd half of the season.

What a change in circumstance for Australian Cricket.

10 years ago we had blokes in shield cricket making a mountain of runs and bowlers who, playing for any other country (Macgill) would have been playing regular test cricket, yet couldnt find a spot in the aussie side.

Fast forward 10 years you make 2 fifties in a row at domestic level or take a 5 fa your given a baggy green.

I blame 20/20 cricket. Bbl has taken a huge chunk out of the summer, and it's too bigger break between four day games.

Spot on.
This is the best time of the year to be playing shield cricket.
To suspend it for a month to play meaningless hit and giggle is ridiculous

Absoultely agree.
Like I said last week, the spinners would be getting more of a go now than Oct-mid-Nov, up to which point Qld had played 5 shield games. Yes, I really want to see whether Boyce is up to it.

When shield cricket attracts 45000 in a day to the MCG we can play it in the prime time dec-jan holiday period

Lol. The old justin Bieber argument. He sells heaps of albums so he must be the best.

Maybe if shield cricket had as much marketing and money available, it might be able to compete. Not the longer form of the game's fault that the modern cricket fan has a short attention span.

I don't think he said that. It's not ideal but it's how they roll now.

surely this is the time of year to be playing the shield matches rather then these pissy 20-20 bullshit matches that actually mean nothing.

They make no money from them, for CA to make domestic cricket viable they need to play T20's when the majority of the audience can go watch them.
Maybe start the BBL after the new year, there's generally only one test in the new year, the BBL can be an audition for the ODI's. Play less ODD's prior to the break and squeeze more Shield cricket in then to give test berths to form players and finish off the ODD's during the hotter months.

Its probably not a bad idea LM....however then you lose 4 day practice leading up to the winter series overseas, which is a massive problem. Personally i think scrap the franchise set up and go back to state v state. Lessens the number of teams, lessens the length of a tournament, the public still get the 20/20 buzz with the big bash plus international T20's and then most importantly, players can get back to playing the most important form of cricket leading up to test series internationally.
