Warner is one of those 'young guys' you mentioned in a previous post. As he gets older he'll become more aware of his own game. However, at this stage of his career he must play like David Warner and not like Ed Cowan. The 'thinking' part will come. I actually think Warner should be at three as traditionally this is the best place to bat your most attacking batsman.

His batting style puts the opposition on the back foot and his response to the signficant question that is Morne Morkel and his unsettling of the world's best fast bowler Dale Steyn has been a real positive for the Australians this summer. We just need 3 and 4 to make some runs.

I felt very sorry for Siddle. He bowled his heart out and his reward was to go out and bat. Not a great move.

Punter is the best Australian batsman I have ever seen but right now he is batting like Matthew Scarlett played his football in the 2012 season . I'm not sure about calling for his head though. Who is knocking on the door? I think he should play all six tests and IF he is in form then he goes to England. Otherwise thanks for a great career.

One of the reasons the Poms couldn't win the Ashes for twenty years was because they kept rolling out blokes like Gatting and Gooch time after time. We shouldn't do the same or the urn will remain in English hands.

We are in deep trouble if he goes to England, will get found out badly on the seaming pitches.
Sad seeing him bat like this but all greats have to eventually walk away from the game.
As for option at the moment we probably have only a couple, Hughes could come in and Cowan and Watto bat 3 and 4 or Khawaja is a straight swap for Ponting.
Still troubling times, still not convinced about Cowan and not sure that Hughes has learnt his lesson yet

Siddle always does the team thing though and would have put up his hand to do the job.
Even when batting he was giving 100% and he took that quick single off the last ball of the over so he could take the strike instead of Clarke.
Was a long day for him yesterday and he really busted his gut in the absence of Patto

And none of those options strengthen the side. Ponting is far better than anyone who you bring in to replace him. Say what you like but in the English conditions he will be far better equipped to deal with it than an inexperienced player with an average record. If the replacements were beating down the door Ricky wouldn't have been the best performed bat in the Sheffield Shield this season. If he is struggling what is going to happen to players who aren't as good as he is? Maybe we should ask Rob Quiney......

IMO today will be the best day of cricket all summer. It will be a dogfight out in the middle this morning. Whomever wins the first session will go a long way to winning this test and maybe the series. Each of the first three days there have been early wickets so the South Africans could be batting by lunch. Really need Clarke (again) and Hussey to see us through the first hour at least
July 11th 2012....

So if your not sure about Hughes why should he get back in? He is not ready its as simple as that.. When he is then i will be happy that he has earnt his spot but at the moment that is not now, Now as for Ussie i have watched him bat twice in the past fortnight and boy he looks great and i want him in for Ponting when the time is right but he needs to keep banging on the door and more to the point making hundreds and not 60's and 70's.

Interesting time for the selectors but for me Ponting stays.

and yet they just said that once he was cleared to play for sth africa he was straight in the side. shows how bad home grown spinners are for sth africa if they are like scotland, ireland, canada etc relying on ex pakis, indians etc for spinners

Always thought Khawaja was a bit stiff to be dropped.
Coming in at no 3 when we were stuggling as a team, he never gave his wicket away, 10 completed innings and only one time he didn't get a start. Pressure inning of 65 chasing 300 in SA coming in at 1/0, shortly after 2/19.
Sure he had to turn these starts into big scores, and perhaps improve his run rate, but I thought he was worth persisting with for a few tests longer.
