I hope Hogg gets a game on Sunday and they give White a rest.....

need Hoggs accuracy and subtle changes in pace in teh middle overs, plus he is good accumulator of runs in the lower order...
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

We do need Hogg.

Tait looked better with the bat than Hodge.

Nerves got to Tait and this was evidence of how far out of his depth he was!! I prayed early he wouldn't bowl wides and he did. The chin nearly hitting the ground when he dropped that catch was further evidence of how far out of his depth he was. Nerves maybe, a lot of work to do, definitely...............as a proud South Aussie, I was dissapointed he couldn't rise :?

Hooray, atleast its shows Australia can be beaten, so it might make the World Cup a little more exciting.

Tait will take time to adjust. Its like training & playing with Westies and then being asked to play a key postion role for West Coast after one training run at the club.

Disappointing days for the two on trial in Tait and Hodge.
Both have been in irrepressible form domestically. The pressure both were under is immense with only a week or so remaining before the squad of 15 is announced and it showed. Hopefully Taity can run through the Kiwis on Sunday. I'm guessing he'll be better for the yesterday's run.
Very, very happy to see Plunkett have a good day. He would have played much earlier in the series had it not been for a 'mishap' resulting in a rolled ankle. Was very good for Uni in the 10 or so games he played for us and a likable and modest guy to boot.

ps Cam White - far from convinced that he should be playing ahead of Hogg. He's had a few opportunities now and apart from some late overs big hitting has shown little else. Maybe could have been given a few more overs though.

Tait needs more exposure to the elite level of cricket. You can't throw a guy in "every now and then" and expect him to be at his best form. He'll be fine. Maybe the same could be said of Hodge, but I don't think he's a future prospect. Also, he has some weaknesses that aren't exposed at domestic level.

If you're looking for a spin bowler, then White is not an option. His bowling isn't good enough for the elite level. If you need a batsman to come in late and elevate the run rate, then White is the one you would pick.

I know I sound like a broken record because I've been saying this all summer. White's days in the Australian team are numbered unless he throws his garbage bowling in the bin and works on his batting. Start batting 3 for Victoria, make big q00s, and he could forge a career in the Aussie team once Hussey or Ponting retires. Not sure how he'd go as an opening batsman, is it worth a thought?

Only if Sir Shane Watson takes his place.

Batting at 7 with a few overs left
and bowling at the 35 over mark
is a hard ask for a young player.
But then again thats whats available in a strong team.
I think hes just done enough, considering the circumstances

No doubt HOGG is a far superior bowler, but its one of the quicks
that is taking HOGGS place at the moment not the number 7 batter.

AH White bats 4 for Victoria.

Those supposed weaknesses were really exposed when HODGE made 200
versus South Africa in a test match.
Hes a good player and needs elongated opportunites at the highest level.
My gut feeling is he will not make it.

PS: TASSIES post just after mine is probably the best way too describe HODGE

His weakness is his mind, at 1st class level he is confident and relaxed at teh crease because he knows he can score runs with relative ease at that level.

At international level he is so desperate to make it that he becomes all tense and anxious (too aroused) he becomes tenative hence he gets out to poor shots...

he just needs to relax and believe in himself, i.e get into an optimal state of arousal so he can perform at international level like he does at domestic level cricket.

Skull pointed this out beautifully last night on Aunty....
