Nope, although Bishop did play 1 or 2 ODI matches for Australia in the mid 80's.

Bishop's two games for Australia were played in Perth for the America's Cup Challenge, can't remember what the tournament was officially called.

Nobes was never in the frame, although the South Australian press certainly pushed for his selection prior to an early 1990s tour of the West Indies. There was talk his attacking batting, particularly his ability to play the pull and hook shot would be an asset in the Windies.

MacLeay - pedestrian. Probably Dave Gilbert got the chance he would've.
Phil Alley never really played enough FC matches. Everyone remembers him for his height but he was very injury prone and never really lived up to his potential.

Yeah Nobes was never really in the frame, but if if had have had had a chance at a higher level, he probably would have done ok. Made 90-odd in his first season for SA against the West Indies in a Tour Game.

I recall Bishop playing in those 2 games in '87. Knew it was a one off type of tournament but didn't realise it was linked with the America's Cup.

Aussies had some pretty gun openers around that time though so was always going to be hard to break into the test side

mal.

He had many, many attributes that would have made him a very, very good cricketer at international level.

He lacked speed and endurance and even perhaps a little batting technique but, his bowling. Well. The ones that hit the pitch were nigh on unplayable.

No, 11 ODI's.

IIRC he was selected for the 1985 Ashes tour after breaking into the ODI team in the 1984/85 series.

But then withdrew to tour South Africa with the Kim Hughes led rebel teams and never played for Australia again.
