20/20 IS the golden goose. Our domestic comp runs at a massive loss every year. It's getting a lot of kids interested in cricket that would never had followed the game otherwise. It brings in much needed funding to the sport. It gets people talking. I don't like the new franchises, but will still be hoping Adelaide do well in it because it's good seeing the Redbacks players doing well.

for tonight to be regarded a success what do you think the min attendance needs to be?

I think the weather may impact on the crowds.

perhaps a small 20-20 carnival type state v state comp should be held at the start of the summer and hopefully the new fans that are attracted will then flow on to the 50 over and test matches

Nobody has been going to the Shield for years. A completely irrelevant arguement that misses the point by miles. The Shield is there to prepare Test Cricketers. The Shield is there to play test cricketers back into form. I'm twiddling my thumbs because there is teeball on this weekend instead of the deciding test of the Australia v New Zealand series. It's not the glorious past that concerns me but the uncertain future. It's not whinging either, it's called having an opinion. If anyone can say anything more intelligent than 'get with the times' or 'money' (for a year or two anyway) I'll be glad to have my mind put at ease.

You and us, have got nothing. Not until Boxing Day.

For how long? Diminishing and temporary returns - it's happening already in week one with people handing out free tickets. Bastardising a great game for people who will be following basketball in two years. teeball only exists because one dayers got stale. Will 10/10 be the golden goose in 2015?

the issue of no state games leading into the boxing day test is a concern

No mate it doesn't matter because nobody goes to those games anymore. Then when we send out a bunch of kids who can't bat longer than a session we'll start losing test matches left right and centre and nobody will go to them anymore either. Then we can have more of the golden goose teeball. Then in another couple of decades we can just shut the shop up all together unless 10/10 catches on.

5000 at Sydney. Golden goose or golden duck? I don't think enough thought has gone into this at the highest levels of the game and some people consider this to be a sign of smart administration. I respectfully disagree.

Ive just seen a Big Bash Blunder
The preview on the foxtel caption for the Adelaide Strikers v Melb Renegades says :

West Indian slogger Kieron Pollard returns to Adelaide Oval in a bid to bring more silverware to South Australia ....
He'll be up against two of the quickest bowlers in world cricket in Shaun Taut and Dirk Nannes

Just received a phone call from Bayman
""Its $15 car park admission."'
I asked if he was still going in
"" Yes, we have free tickets.""

Be thankful they invented T20 rather than go straight to expanding the Hong Kong Sixes tournament... 8)

Starting the comp the weekend before Christmas has been a big blunder, as the smaller than expected crowds in all games so far would suggest.

Haven't watched last night's or Friday night's games due to other commitments, and watching tonight's game on TV due to a commitment at 8:00pm. Will still go to the other two matches though.

Watching on Fox tonight instead of attending which is unusual for me.
Am struggling with the concept that the opposition are wearing the Redbacks colours and we're wearing Port Power colours.
Too bloody confusing as to who I'm barracking for ;)

In fairness to the concept, we have to wait and see if we get the payoff post christmas. The 5 or 6 rounds + finals post Xmas would be similar to the length of last year's state based Big Bash, if not longer.

I am open minded on the concept so far. I have only know the state based cricket so I can understand the traditionalists having issues with this format. However I can also understand that only having 6 teams was limiting in terms of finding space for all the imports and the retired players like Warney. It also stopped any future growth in team numbers. Once you commit to the 6 state teams then you are stuck forever with just 6 teams. Fine for 50 over cricket and Shield games but possibly not fine for this format.

If we are judging success based on crowds then we have to wait until it is all over rather than jumping to conclusions after the first 3 games.
In between signatures .....

Probably would have been better off starting in the lead up to New Years Eve, and let it run to early February (ala last year), which would have been a good lead-in to the ODI season. Only issue though would be the availability of Etihad for cricket as there would be only be a couple of weeks gap between the BBL and NAB Cup, but it shouldn't take that long to take out what I suspect would just be the 1 wicket at Etihad.

Called in to the oval tonight for the 1st 1/2 hr of the game, just happened to be walking past and am a member.
The main issue i had with the new format was the change to franchise teams.
What i witnessed was a Lack of atmoshere & expectation amongst the crowd compared to last year.
I found myself watching an exhibition between 2 teams with NO history and NO relevance.
As a result my care factor was ZERO and promptly left.
