Another question for the knowledgeable ones, happened to me today when bowling. Keeper was standing back from the stumps, ball gets through to him. He then throws the stumps down whilst batsman is out of his ground. Stumped or Run Out. I know what i want it to be.

Correct. No attempt at a run and it's stumped. If another fielder throws down the stumps and there's no attempt at a run (like if the batsman hits to short leg or something) then it's run out.

Bouncers over head height are no balls

Thats what i understand the law to be as well so can someone tell me WHY umpires that i've watched on tv in recent years only call these as wides and NOT no balls ??? :?

Law 25: Wide ball. An umpire calls a ball "wide" if, in his or her opinion, the batsman did not have a reasonable opportunity to score off the ball. A ball is called wide when the bowler bowls a bouncer that goes over the head of the batsman.

42.6A(ii)Any delivery which, after pitching, passes or would have passed over head height of the striker standing upright at the popping crease, although not threatening physical injury, shall be included with bowling under (i) above, both when the umpire is considering whether the bowling of fast short pitched balls has become dangerous and unfair and after he has so decided. The umpire shall call and signal No ball for each such delivery.

Found some really interesting rules when I was having a casual read the other day. Like if a bowler bowls a no ball, unless the striker hits the ball any runs scored (apart from penalty runs) are no balls. So overstep, ball flicks the pad and goes for 4 and it's 5 no balls against the bowler.

And the old Mankad is technically sort of still in play. Not the fake the batsman out of his crease stuff, but once the bowler starts a run up the ball is technically "in play" (hence why umpires signal dead ball for aborted run ups) and so then a batsman can be run out if he's out of his ground up to any point before the bowling stride begins. The bowling stride begins when the bowler's back foot lands in the stride containing his delivery swing. So if a bowler just runs through and breaks the stumps before landing his back foot, it's out.
