The player that should come into the side at any time is the best one. Age doesn't come into it. The best players need to be in the side. No-one should ever play simply because they are young.

Hughes will be a top player but he's still got a LONG way to go.

Im not sure I agree with you there Rod.I wish I had some decent points to raise and debate the comment but I cant come up with any really sound points, but the comment just doesnt 'feel' right to me.

I think now is the time to throw a real young bloke,20,21 year old in the deep end and see if he's got it. With Ponting and Hussey the other side of 30 and Hayden basically gone ( perhaps another year ) I think its time to take a risk. Why? I dont know,I just feel like its the right time.

All test matches are as important as each other. You don't use Test cricket to "blood" young players for the future. We have the strongest domestic comp in the world for that. The best players should be in the Test side regardless of age. If a guy is good enough it doesn't matter if he's 18 or 118 he should play. There is an argument that you get the best out of players if you make them wait and really earn their spot. Mike Hussey for example. He won't ever take a Test innings for granted and it shows in his output.

You do that to Hughes now Booney and you'll ruin him. Granted he's only 19 at the moment but ya get me drift.

Exactly why SYMONDS shouldn't be in the TEST side. Anyone who suggests that he is a top 6 batsmen ahead of Hodge, D.Hussey and several others are obviously in love with the man.

GROAN. Not Nick Hodge again. Vettori will have him for breakfast. A bigger bunny against spin you will not find in this country.

Is Symonds a better batsman than D. Hussey or Hodge? No.

Is Symonds a better cricketer than D. Hussey or Hodge? Yes.

Is Symonds more likely to change a game with the bat, ball or in the field than D.Hussey or Hodge? Yes.

Roy is a fantastic cricketer. His fielding alone should be enough for a place in the side. If you heard Hussey talking about him before Day 1 of the last test you would understand how valued he is among the playing group.

My $0.05 regarding the opening situation.

I believe the selectors are hoping that Katich and Hayden can forge an effective partnership through to the end of 5th test in England next year, then Hayden will be tapped on the shoulder.

With a team in transition they will want some stability and experience to ensure we retain the ASHES then they'll look to a Rogers or even a Hughes to step up into the test team.

#1 priority over the next six months is retaining the ASHES.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Yes, I can cope with a declining team, but I can't cope with losing to England. I'm still undecided if Hayden can make it through to England, but no doubt that beating the Poms needs to be at the forefront of our planning, with most of the work centring around what attack will do the job in England.
Roger Woodcock -- 602 goals from a forward flank makes you a legend.

Fox Sports is reporting that Clark may be dropped for Siddle due to his poor record at Adelaide Oval. Don't know what to say to that.
