best eleven maybe... but best six (assuming you'd pick six batsmen, a keeper, and four bowlers), i'd say no.

What a ridiculous call back there! I think Ponting's spot is pretty safe.

Anyway, back on what the thread is about I thought Ferguson looked very comfortable in his 28 the other day and got another not out last night (thanks Steve Davis) so should be able to hold his spot for future one dayers.
Don't be scared. Now is not the time!

So farewell ponting??

ROFLMAO   Ponting would be one of the first picked right now if you were selecting a World XI. Sure he isn't the greatest tactician we have seen as a captain but as a batsman he is one of the all time greats and still is one of the best in the world.

He should have given out a ridiculous number of times this summer when he wasn't. Not even close to one of the best in the world at the moment.

So he's in the bext XI but not best 6 batsmen?

Can you name some who are better than him? Infact you can start off by naming one....

That's a rock solid argument right there  Shoulda, coulda, woulda.

Swings and roundabouts Shrek. He has also been given out plenty of times when he wasn't. As much as i think the selectors do make mistakes at times at least they aren't so stupid to even entertain the thought that Ponting isn't in our best side.

A week and a half ago a whole heap of people were calling for Hussey's head on here. How things change and how fickle some people can be. Appreciate champions for what they are and don't make the mistake of writing them off. You will just end up looking stupid.

You blokes are classic. The blokes 24 years old and showing PLENTY of promise. Its a known fact that most Australian cricketers dont hit their best until their late 20s.

I say well done Ferg on a classy start to his ODI career, he's definately oozes class and appears to have a good technique. Im gald you lads spent all your time on here, rather than developing young cricketers. I'd be pretty stoked if i a 24yo player from my cricket club whom has forced my way into the Redback side and is average almost 36 each time he goes out to bat.

Australia obviously arent the best in the world anymore but that doesnt mean that the players we have representing us arent the best in the country. People were saying "Jeez it would be nice to have close games instead of smashing every team." But now that we are getting close games to watch people are calling for sackings and stuff. The NZ series has been pretty good to watch.

Currently has an average of 47 ;)
Strike rate of 117.5
Pretty good start I would say
Would still like to see him up the order a bit where he can push the ball around which is his natural game

I think he ok in the spot he is in atm..... i would personally put fergie in before White in a powerplay. He scores freely to all parts where as White is a hit the ball he can get under player and nothing else. Ferg will still hit the boundary but on the good balls always put it into a gap....

Just looked at that. Jack has come from no where. These 5 ODI will put me back at the top where I belong. Sorry to say there is no hope for you though Donkey!

He should be playing test cricket this summer and if he isn't, the Australian selectors are a joke.

Bloody hell, that's insightful.

Yes indeed he has the talent to play test cricket, but knocking the ball around in the middle overs of an ODI (albeit very well) is a lot different to being successful in the test arena.

Will need to add to his tally of 4 first class centuries, before he can be considere a baggy green.

Will be a good chance as he was someone that was looked upon by the national hierachy early on and given that some batsmen have been promoted in last 10 years with only modest first class averages it won't be a total surprise.
