I don't think Johnson is totally at fault for the way he bowled in this test.

Can you explain to me how the field settings forced Johnson to bowl a metre outside off stump to RP Singh and Sharma??

No protection on the on side at times. He was bowling with only a fine leg and a mid on on the leg side, its hard to attack the stumps knowing every time the ball hits the willow they get an easy single and rotate the strike.

Though i do have to admit at times Johnson was bowling ridicoulsly far out side the off-stump but that was partly effected by the fact he couldn't pitch it on off stump with out them getting the single.

We are talking RP Singh and Ishant Sharma here. Do you really think they are good enough to milk singles on the on side to balls aimed at off stump?

It also doesn't help that Johnson can't swing the ball.

They didn't even need to milk singles they just had to put bat on ball nothing more, even tailenders can do that to a ball thats not swinging. I partially agree with you but i would have preferred to see a square leg in there and take out the mid off and use the natural angle to attack the stumps and see if they could play a straight drive across the huge angle without an edge. Having the square leg would have let him be able to fire in some bouncers at the body and yorkers at the toes as well.
