ADCOCK has made 1 more 100 than Matthew Elliott for South Australia
Will KATICH make more runs in 2007-2008 than Adcock 1997-2008 ??????????

Mal, Adcock goes in down the order and does not have to face the new ball. Herb does the hard job of going in as opener.

Bulldogproud, Herb is a former International player and one of the best Pura Cup
batsman ever produced, Adcock is a battler who simply is not good enough at this level.
However on the strength of what I have seen in the last 3 years when Herb transferred
to SA, his form at Pura Cup level is inferior to Nathans
In 3 seasons Elliott has not made a 100 for SA
Elliott has only made about 3 half centuries in 3 seasons, and repeatedly failed
2006-2007
ELLIOTT average 13-79
ADCOCK average 46-29
In the previous year Herb averaged less than 20 as well

This season has also been very disappointing for Herb
He has had a few starts and failed to capitalise, so in fact hes been as disappointing

Anyone who is satisfied with Herbs P/cup form for SA neds to re-evaluate thier thinking.

If the selectors rightfully drop ADCOCK then Im afraid ELLIOTT must go as well

MAL, Adcock made his debut in 97/98 has been In and out of the side ever since, never cemented his place. Thats 10 years of trying to make the grade of first class cricket and with an average of 24 as a batsman proves he is a long way off the mark. Yes he did warrant a spot in the team for the first game but not as captain, he didn't need the extra burden of that on his shoulders as he is trying to forge a career for SA. At the moment he cant lay bat on ball and it is somewhat similar what Elliott went through last year and why Elliot was dropped at end of season. The difference is Elliott is currently making runs at the top of the innings, he is one of the leading first class scorers of all time, he adds wealth of experience to the younger players, especially with no BOOF in team, and there is no other players at the moment who are ready to open for SA. Adcock out, Plant into the middle order with the veiw of him stepping up to opener next year with hopefully some solid runs under his belt and the confidence to take on the new ball next year as the replacement for Herb.

SOOTERS
If your content with ELLIOTT averaging 31 this year then sobiet
By his standards, for a man who averaged 50 odd in pura/cup cricket before relocating,he
would be deeply dissatisfied with his efforts this season.

MEL
I said he is our best bat so far this year, we are only half way in. I hope he can turn a start into a big 100, his average will take care of its self. What are the rest of the Pura Cup openers averaging this year, would be curious. It wouldnt be easy opening in the strongest competion in the world.

ELLIOTT UPDATE

2005 -2006
8 INNINGS
96 RUNS
AVE 12-00

2006-2007
14 INNINGS
193 RUNS
AVE 13-79

2007-2008 ????
10 INNINGS
310 RUNS
AVE 31-00

SA CAREER
32 INNINGS
599 RUNS
AVE 18-71

I would rather he made a stack of runs
Unfortunately, and Im sure Matt would be the first to admit his form for SA is very poor.
Call it a lack of fitness with his knee problem
Call it a player aged his mid thirties
Call it rightfully hard to open in the domestic comp
BUT
Call this the biggest ride afforded to a cricketer at his age you might ever see in first class cricket

He has improved this year but still below whats expected from one of the finest domestic batsman ever produced in Australia.
I hope he finishes of the year well to silence his critics[including me]

On the positive note his f/cup form is sensational

Mal, I know Herb personally and to say that he is being given a 'ride' is just about defamatory. He has been trying his heart out for SA. He is the best performed opening batsman in South Australia, he also was the One Day Player of the Year last season and he has had to put up with terrible progress on his knee. Statistics do not tell the full story, watch Herb actually bat. He still has excellent strokemaking ability. Unfortunately he has just had a few pearlers and also made some poor shot selection.

Besides, an opener averaging in the thirties is acceptable. A middle order batsman needs to be in the forties though.

BULLDOGPROUD/SOOTERS.
You guys know Matt on a personal basis.
We three have something in common.
We would all love Matt to fire up and make some big hundreds in the p/cup.
But in all sincereness he is very fortunate to hold his spot in the team.
31 this season is not quite good enough for his immense ability.
Hes gettin starts and not converting, thats disappointing.

I will keep going to the Adelaide oval and just hope Herbie gets a big one
Hope its soon

BD/PROUD
Ask Herb if he can get to bat in the middle order.

2/100 now and the deficit has been cut to 48. A collapse is imminent you would think, or will the two young guns at the crease stand up for their state?

Well Cossie has managed to get himself to 55 and now he is out. Another start, yet no finish.

3/127 and we trail by 21 runs.

Ferguson is 34 and Adcock is the new man in so it should be 4/ soon.
