Instead of picking 3 allrounders(1 who can't bowl) and a wicketkeeper at 6 , pick a side that Australia has had success with. That means your best 6 batsman, best wicketkeeper and 4 best bowlers. Time to keep it simple.

1. We don't have six batsmen who can play againt quality swing bowling. We've got one.
2. Only four quality bowlers can bowl out a side. We've got one.

GAWN. Even the 1985 team is better than our current lineup.

yep and tell our blokes that if you want to play test cricket you cant be part of the IPL. Then all those who faaark off to the IPL for a quick $mil can sit and watch Australia's first XI from the stands in future. I think long term a baggy green and your name in the record books is a better option than the quick (ugly) buck. Ideally you'd want to play test until you are in the 30's then p!ss off to India and make some money
Only a thought

Worse part with the batting is there isn't much if any better in state cricket.

We are going to be a very poor side for the next 5 years.

This doesn't include Clarke and Pattinson

We are turning into New Zealand. Having very few genuine stars so pick a team full of all rounders and hope some of them click. I think NZ has shown this doesn't work.

I hope some replacements are flown over.....my man Voges should get first the first ticket.

Not dominate, but being competitive would be nice.
Would be good going into a series thinking we are at least a chance

This article sums it up for me: http://www.smh.com.au/sport/cricket/aim ... 2fi16.html

In particular the quote re Watson - "Shane Watson’s role as a non-bowling all-rounder seems to trouble him less than he has been troubling the scorers."

I agree with the approach you mentioned but I reckon we just don't have the cattle. Surely it's time for Bailey and Voges? Our attack would have to be better in environments less suited to spin which is our weakness. Comptetive? Hopefully so.
