Declare 5 overs before lunch, get the lead up to 600, Hughes goes for the 200.

Taking the bye on the wide one was just taking the piss out of the Saffies. Great stuff Hughes and Clarke. They are making those hairybacks look decidedly third rate.

Fair Dinkum I can't believe the South African bowlers haven't put a few past his ears given that he is backing away and trying to slog them over their head.

I know what Glen mcGrath, Dennis Lillee, Jeff Thompson, Merv Highes and Alan Donald would do if batsmen started to take liberties...

Pietersen suffered broken ribs when he tried to charge Mcgrath once too often...

Well, the great innings has come to a close, but there's a chance that Hughes' two innings will outscore both of the South African totals. Especially if Johnson can produce some more chin music.

Well Hughes goes down swinging but the damage is already done. Hughes has a massive psychological advantage over the South African attack now.

Why not declare when Hughes got out, instead of North going out there to make a duck.

Yes Hughes has been fantastic but like he was closer to his next test century at the Wanderer's following his 4th baller he is closer to his next test duck following his two centuries here. He still has a lot to learn about the mental side of test cricket as opposition sides will work him out and as questions of his temperament and technique.

as I've said before this kid is destined for a long and successful test career but not before he gets dropped and is made to tighten his technique and refine his mental approach to the game.

:?

He's as mentally tough as they come, I honestly thought that would've been evident to all. And his temperament? Ummm that gets the tick too.

Strange post.

People said the same about Taylor after the 89 Ashes, Clarke after the 2004 Indian tour...

Look he's a special player but over the next few years he will be challenged, so don't be surprised if he gets dropped.

rremember Duminey looked invincible 2 months ago, the Australians have gone away and developed plans for him which have limited his effectiveness. The same will happen to Hughes.

Strange post are people forgetting that this is test cricket - 12 months ago Hussey was flying against Sri Lanka and had got his average back over 80, now....

Hughes will get tested and challenged

You're strange. I'm not saying he WON'T be dropped, he might, history says so. But his mental strength and temperament are two of his best attributes. Questioning them is showing yourself up for limited knowledge.

Of course he's going to be tested and challenged. He's not flawless, Ponting isn't, Tendulkar isn't, Bradman wasn't. He'll fail, a lot, but doesn't mean he's not a freakish talent and won't go down a very good player. Gosh.
