Makes you wonder whether he's steeled himself for some stat padding today. Can't imagine he'd be walking off thinking they might have needed another 20-30 to win, cheap century on his mind perhaps? Can't imagine against any other country he'd be this cautious.

Been doing some research on Gayle's slow higher scores. Previously he'd had 7 innings of 75 or more with a strike rate of under 80. 3 against minnows(!), 2 batting first in WI losses and once chasing when WI ultimately lost by 67 runs. Only once has a slow Gayle 75+ led to a win against a good country (used loosely, Vs England 2007 when Collingwood was captain of England).

Doesn't make it look like he's trying to do the right thing by the team when he does this. But I guess it helps the average.......
