I know you guys all get your cricket so you can tell me pi55 off and I will, but watching the aftermath of Australia’s exit, is there some blame gaming going on here. Maxwell, like him or not has been shot down in flames by the ‘new coach’ and there appears to be a bit of history with them two. Personally I don’t mind a guy calling it as he sees it, for me the selection of Richardson was bemusing, watched him so many times put over the fence in the final overs at Adelaide Oval. Sure he was good at times also but it was always heart in the mouth stuff. Be interested if you can have your views on our failure.

We have always sucked at t20 apart from the WC win in UAE this year that nobody expected. The selecters/coach thought the same team could do it again, with the only change David for Smith.

Pretournament form was terrible, the chopping and changing of the side, the random trip to India wtf. Can't say most people didn't see it coming.

Hopefully from now on the selectors/coach might look at picking a specialist t20 side where the test quicks aren't an automatic walk up. The decision to pick KRichardson was mindblowing, its not like he has played much cricket lately.

Anyone else surprised with the poor crowd figures for the Australian games. Even AO only got 28k, given it’s a World Cup in what was a must win well game that’s pretty average. I think the biggest was 38k at the aid/England game that was washed out

Without looking I reckon the 50 over WC would have got better attendance for the aus games

Whats that say about the public support for Australia in their own country when a game not involving Aust draws a higher crowd ?

Crowds have been low at all venues during the tournament, I think it being played in October/November at the start of Australia's cricket season has had an impact on crowds. IMO crowds would of been higher if the tournament was played in January/February but that would mean it would compromise the BBL and CA wouldn't want that!

I looked at going briefly.
Saw it was $110 a ticket for a seat that wasn't looking into the sun all day.

Decided not to bother.

As it turns out you could have just bought a $30 ticket in section 5 and then walked straight into section 1 and sat there.

Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka was about to fly out of the country when police swooped in and charged him with raping a Sydney woman he met on Tinder.

NSW Police arrested Gunathilaka and pulled him off the team’s bus in the driveway of a Sydney hotel at 1am Sunday as it was about to depart for the airport hours after Sri Lanka was knocked out of the T20 World Cup in a loss to England at the SCG.

Gunathilaka, 31, was charged with four counts of sexual intercourse without consent and refused bail. Police allege he raped a 29-year-old woman at her Rose Bay home last Wednesday after they met for drinks at the Opera Bar before dinner.

He spent Sunday night inside Surry Hills Police Station holding cells and is due to face the Downing Centre Local court Monday when his lawyer will apply for bail.

Gunathilaka met his alleged victim on Tinder on October 29 and the pair communicated for several days before they met up for the first time on November 2.

NSW Police Sex Crimes Squad boss Detective Superintendent Jayne Doherty said the woman did not recognise Gunathilaka as a cricketer, but was simply “matched” with him through the dating app.

“On November 2, they met for prearranged drinks, had something to eat and went back to the young lady’s home,” Det Supt Doherty said.

It is there at that police allege Gunathilaka sexually assaulted the woman four times between 11.30pm and 1.30am.

“Police allege that the male assaulted the female a number of times whilst performing sexual acts on her.”

Det Supt Doherty said the woman had taken precautions by communicating with the man for several days before meeting up with him and by choosing a public place to meet him.

“It was just unfortunate. It has nothing to do with meeting on a dating app,” Det Supt Doherty said.

The woman went to Bondi police station at 3pm on Saturday and filed a complaint. Ten hours later, Gunathilaka was arrested.

“Police investigated and once we established there was a case to answer to, we made the arrest,” Det Supt Doherty said.

Police said the alleged victim was being supported by family and friends, social workers and also medical professionals.

Sri Lankan teammates flew home Sunday morning without the all-rounder who was injured three weeks ago but was kept with the squad even though he did not play in the tournament.

“He was hoping it would get to court today (Sunday), so he‘s disappointed that didn’t happen, but he is holding up OK,” his lawyer Ananda Amaranath told The Daily Telegraph.

“He is quite concerned about what will happen if he can’t get back to Sri Lanka … these are serious charges and it could take a year or more for this to be finalised, so he is very worried about that too.”

Gunathilaka was previously suspended by Sri Lanka in 2018 on a “misconduct” charge after a close associate of his was arrested for sexual assault at the team’s hotel in Colombo.

A Norwegian woman was allegedly sexually assaulted in a hotel room by Sandeep Jude Selliah, 26, while his friend Gunathilaka was present.

“He has said he was asleep and was not aware of what had taken place between his friend and the Norwegian woman,” the Hindustan Times quoted an unnamed police officer in a report back in 2018.

Selliah was questioned by police at the time but no charges were laid.

Aaron Finch won't rush into a decision over his international future following Australia's exit from the T20 World Cup, instead giving himself a chance to see how this season's BBL goes.

Having retired from ODIs in September, there are no international commitments for Finch until next August when Australia have T20s in South Africa. The next T20 World Cup is in West Indies and the USA in mid-2024 when Finch will be 37.

"No, I'm not going to retire. Not just yet," Finch told Seven as he arrived back at Melbourne airport on Sunday. "I'll play Big Bash and see where we sit after that, but I'm still enjoying playing cricket, playing T20."

It still feels unlikely that Finch will pad up again for Australia and if that's the case he will finish with 3120 T20I runs at 34.28 and a strike-rate of 142.53 including a top score 172. He continued to struggle for form at the World Cup with a painful innings against Sri Lanka, but rebounded somewhat with 63 off 44 balls against Ireland in what may have been his last international innings after a hamstring injury keeping him out of the Afghanistan game.

"There's not another international T20 until August, so there's quite a long break," he said. "Still plenty of time to be able to weigh all that up. It's been a pretty good ride regardless of what happens."

Sri Lanka Cricket has launched an investigation into what it says are "various alleged incidents" that took place during the T20 World Cup in Australia.

While no details have been given, the implication is there are other matters besides the arrest of batter Danushka Gunathilaka on rape charges.

He was arrested on Sunday and charged with four counts of sexual intercourse without consent.
Sri Lanka Cricket has appointed a three-person panel to investigate "various alleged incidents that have come to the attention of Sri Lanka Cricket."

"The panel in this process will call for an immediate explanation from the team manager pertaining to his conduct, with references to the occurrence of such incidents," a statement said.
"Upon submission of the said report by the panel, the executive committee of Sri Lanka Cricket will take stern disciplinary action against the players and/or officials if any wrongdoing or negligence is proved when carrying out official duties."

According to leading Sri Lankan journalist Rex Clementine, "a fight involving another [tour participant] in a Brisbane casino also has been reported."

Gunathilaka remains in custody after being denied bail. The rest of the squad returned home without the 31-year-old. Sri Lanka Cricket has suspended him "from all forms of cricket with immediate effect."
ESPNCricinfo revealed that Gunathilaka had previously been suspended by Sri Lanka Cricket on multiple occasions for various disciplinary breaches, including a six match ban in 2018.

"An immensely gifted player, his misconducts were always swept under the carpet," Clementine wrote in The Island newspaper.

"As a result, now a nation has been shamed."
