I think they key is to accept its not test cricket and never will be a suitable substitute for such.
But as a different game entirely it has its place.
International cricket can certainly learn from the fact that like most other sports, the Big Bash has a defined goal and a winner at the end of the season. With the exception of world cups, cricket doesnt really.

I had accepted it's not Test cricket. I'd embraced the show time of the game.
But, seeing non-specialist bowlers getting meaningful bowling time tells me a lot about T20.
I had no problem with Dipak Patel opening the bowling in that World Cup in 1993, that was innovative. But Patel was a specialist.
Smith has bowled a total of three overs in club cricket this season, that's not even part-time.
