I'll go to matches because the kids like it.
But last night, Ben Dunk and Kelvin Smith bowling at the start of the innings is probably why I'll never fall in love with the game.

I think they key is to accept its not test cricket and never will be a suitable substitute for such.

But as a different game entirely it has its place.

International cricket can certainly learn from the fact that like most other sports, the Big Bash has a defined goal and a winner at the end of the season. With the exception of world cups, cricket doesnt really.

The sooner test cricket adopts some sort of meaningful championship the better

I had accepted it's not Test cricket. I'd embraced the show time of the game.
But, seeing non-specialist bowlers getting meaningful bowling time tells me a lot about T20.
I had no problem with Dipak Patel opening the bowling in that World Cup in 1993, that was innovative. But Patel was a specialist.
Smith has bowled a total of three overs in club cricket this season, that's not even part-time.

What do ya mean! Dunk has 4x first class wickets @ 42.25.. why he's a bona fide bowling all rounder

Last night summed it up for me. Pietersen wasn't going to face Pollard if Pollard was to bowl with the tape on his hand.

KP said to the commentators "One umpire says it's ok, the other doesn't and I've told them I'm not batting until he takes it off"

A few minutes of posturing by KP and Pollard and in the end KP says "Ah, it's 20/20 cricket" and faces up.

I've been offering this to friends for thought.

Every international tour consists of the following :

3 Test matches
2 ODI's
1 T20

Max 15 players on the tour.

Test matches 4 points for a win, 1 for a draw, ODI's 2 points for a win, T20 1 point for a win.

So 17 points available with one Test win being worth the same as the two ODI's.

You could win one Test (4), draw 2 (2) lose both one dayers (0) and win the T20 (1) and get 7 points. The opposition would have got 2 draws (2), 2 ODI's (4) and no T20 points for 6 point. Meaning they won two matches ( 2 x ODI ) and you won two matches ( One Test T20 ) but the weight of points for the Test mean you win the series.

Teams could earn points over a 12 month period to be named the best cricketing nation of the year.

BUT it will never happen as all the boards who control the game are only looking after themselves.

If you want to go far, go together.

With each tour being as short as that you could have two nations visit every summer. For us southern nations, one either side of Xmas. For our northern friends one in May/June the other July/August.

That's one more first-class wicket than Mark Taylor.

The Brian Lara one was pretty good too, and cricket 2004, they were the three that were most realistic.

Warne's and Lara's you could just bat for both teams (and for the game ) and not worry about bowling
