His time surely must be up, not up to test standard as a batsman by a long shot

I wanted to see Nevill exposed to more through the Windies series to see if he could bat at 6, Marsh going to 7. They gave Marsh the chance, he got some reward in the ODI's with the bat, time to make it so in the red ball game.

Not sure Nevill is the answer at six either. Was bloody awful today.

Agreed, but while Pattinson, Hazelwood, Bird and Lyon occupy 8, 9,10 and 11 ( well, 3 quicks and Lyon ) we don't have room for Marsh and another batsman at 6. So it's Marsh out for a batsman which hurts the bowling or Nevill to 6 which hurts the batting.

I'd give Nevill some time at 6 as I think Marsh's bowling is becoming an important weapon for us.

Or play two quicks, Marsh as the third and pick 6 batsmen?
PAFC. Forever.

Tipping NZ to get a lead between 225-275 here, could make for an interesting chase

I think you guys are overreacting a bit with regards to marsh. Reckon he is a test quality number 6, just isn't showing it at the moment. I remember watching his knock against Pakistan in the UAE and it was awesome, though I think we still lost.

With our top 5 being in ridiculous form it allows us to carry his batting until he finds form. It's not as if he has cost us yet.

He allows us the flexibility of always playing Lyon too - even on green tops where we otherwise would have played 4 quicks.

And on the subcontinent it will allow us to play a second spinner whilst also retaining 3 quicks.

Is his batting any worse than wattos was? :)

Me neither, at worst inconclusive. Would have been nice to see whether it pitched in line and where it was hitting the stumps, instead of the sheep shaggers banging on about us.

Good tight bowling got him out there, Anderson was getting twitchy playing so many dot balls.

This is why i think Bird should always get a gig ahead of Siddle these, he offers to ability to still get wickets when the pitch isn't doing a whole lot, which now Siddle doesn't offer.
