Interesting day for Clarke. Does he grind the Indians into the ground (which is what I would do with two more tests in the next two weeks...bat until just after tea if possible) or declare sometime earlier? If he bats on and gets the record (either Haydens or Laras) but the Indians then bat for two days for a draw, he will be severely mocked for being selfish and a glory hunter. He will be back to square one with the Aussie cricket fans.

Id bat on. Reckon we will need a 400 run lead on this pitch so we dont have to bat again.
Would love to see us grind them into the turf. Clarke has already done the hard work, deserves some cream at the end.
Would declare until tea, they wont be able to bat for over 2 days

If they are good enough to bat for 2 days on days 4 and 5, then we aren't going to win, even if we declare right now.

Keep their older bats in the field. Grind their bowlers into the ground. Hopefully one of Zaheer or Sharma break down.

Bat on through the morning session, then start to have a crack after lunch, setting up the declaration shortly after drinks in the 2nd session. Have 10 overs at them before tea.

Obviously this is normally completed by holding the ball against the stump, but if you hit it with enough force, you can knock it out of the ground.

That is correct.

The relevant Law:
Law 28 (The wicket is down)

1. Wicket put down
(a) The wicket is put down if a bail is completely removed from the top of the stumps, or a stump is struck out of the ground,
(i) by the ball,

There is no necessity for someone to hold the stump and remove it from the ground, it is just much more likely to happen that way.

Well **** me, I never knew that. Sorry trader, my bad!

Haha, no worries, there are so many little laws like this that plenty of people don't know!

Nah I'd bat until 4:50 EDST a lead of over 500, with the 10 min change over that would give us a 30 min crack at them at full throttle and then give the bowlers an over night rest and give them another working over in the morning, with two full days to get them out.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Milestones to aim for:

287 (Tip Foster's all-time SCG Test match innings record)
334 (Highest Test innings by an Australian captain)
380 (Matthew Hayden's Australian Test innings record)
400 (Brian Lara's Test match innings record)

Among the well-deserved praise for Ponting and Clarke, a small act of Indian petulance has not gone unnoticed...

I'm actually surpised they didnt pull out of the England tour. They seriously got smashed there.

As for the gesture, well thats life. Our cricketers would cop plenty from the Indian crowds as well. I dont think there should be any repramand for it. Its life move. It just means now the crows will target him more, so really its now more his problem. Unless of course if was anything racists, thats obviously not ok.

Clarke 258, highest test score by an Australian against India.
4/511
India are a rabble, Dhoni has started the day with rubbish field settings, no pressure on the batsman.
Brings on the spinner after 6 overs.

Kohli has been fined 50% of his match fee. Surprisingly India are not considering withdrawing from the tour and consider the issue 'closed'
