I don't want to spread even more pessimism, but this series (in terms of dominance) is beginning to remind me of the 1989 series in England. Aussies has a settled team with all top order batsmen making runs, and bowlers taking wickets, whereas England were in total disarray selection wise with a high turnover of players during the series.

The 1989 series ushered in 15 years of Australian dominance of a happless England ... I don't think I could stand being beaten by England for the next 15 years.

That series was the one that MADE Tubby Taylor, and Steve Waugh, and had a young Ian Healy...

This series is looking like being Cook and Trott's conversion to the elite.

And for the Aussies, names like Doherty get Test berths...

Oh bother, i personally don't understand why everyone is so shocked that this is happening to the aussie's. all australian supporters took delight in the failure of other teams over the years and now the wheel has well and truly turned. still have a stupid inkling that the aussies can still win this series, not that its based on the lack of form seen so far.

Good chance this test will be a draw with rain predicted on day 5. I think our best chance to win in Perth is win the toss and bowl. These days the wickets get better to bat on as each day goes bye. Day 4 and 5 dont seem to break up and cause havoc to the batsman like they used too. How many wickets in Australia are drop in wickets these days.

not sure if that's directed at me but will a go at answering it. I don't think that it's ponting's fault entirely, yet another skipper with a bit more guts and bravado e.g. Taylor, Border could be doing a lot more with this current side. Ponting's only really captaining apprenticeship came under S. Waugh and to be honest, all Waugh had to do was chuck the ball to warney/mcgrath and the results invariably came.
That said Ponting is still the best option for captain ATM and even the best stockman is sh!t without the proper cattle.

Two important things I learnt today:

Fact 1. A. Cook, 657 runs at 131. Three centuries, two fifties. Has faced a whopping 1226 deliveries.

Fact 2. In five games, Bell and Collingwood have only had five innings- Pietersen in his sixth currently.

This is unbelievable. I have never seen anything like it. Cook is averaging 400 for the series. This even tops Steve Waugh's start in 1989. Bradman like scoring almost now for Cook.

Yep, the applicants for the Eddie Scissorhands Scholarship were out in force today. You saw Hussey's "effort", quite pathetic. Later, Haddin had an overhead chance which looked difficult, but one he should have taken. Then there was the attempted run out by Doh'erty which was just a terrible effort. The side on camera was lucky to keep the ball in the frame. The only time we hit the stumps was when we didn't need to, and it went for overthrows. Doh'erty's "slide" to save a four and missing by about 3 metres was rather comical, as was Dougie looking like a front end loader as he ploughed through the outfield to save a run. Some of the returns to Haddin were D grade standard. Not good.

Thanks. So really just a couple of dropped catches, Hussey and Haddin. Concerning that for 90 overs of cricket only a handful of wicket opportunities were generated.

THIS SUCKS ASS BUT IT NEEDS TO BE SAID. I WATCHED THE FIRST 2 DAYS FROM THE BEST GRAND STAND AT THE BEST OVAL IN THE WORLD AND THE EQUATION IS SIMPLE UNFORTUNATELY...
ENGLAND HAVE BETTER BATTERS
ENGLAND HAVE BETTER BOWLERS IN ALL DEPARTMENTS
THE POMS ARE SHARPER IN THE FIELD
UNLESS JC ANSWERS MY PRAYERS DIRECTLY AND WE STEAL A ONE NIL SERIES WIN. THE ASHES WILL GO HOME TO THE POMS. THEY ARE JUST TO GOOD. IF THEIR WAS A SMILIE THAT HAD TEARS I WOULD INSERT IT... BUT ALAS THIS IS THE BEST, MOST BALANCED, FIT, HUNGRY, PASSIONATE ENGLISH CRICKET I HAVE EVER SEEN SINCE MY INFECTIOUS INDUCTION TO THIS ADDICTION IN 1982.
SOMETIMES YOU JUST GOTTA SAY..."YOU MAY WELL BE TOO GOOD :-("
