FWIW Gideon Haigh's first-test team at Trent Bridge on Insiders this morning

Cowan
Hughes
Khawaja
Clarke
Watson
Warner
Haddin/Hartley
Starc
Siddle
Pattinson
Hilf/Bird
Lyon (12th) due to it being at Trent Bridge.

Him and Gerard Wheatley talked about the top four occupying the crease and trying to build a 300-ish score.
Agree with them, I reckon Warner will be a guaranteed early wicket if he's opening.
Haigh said Haddin maybe for experience, but thinks Hartley is best gloveman in Australia

Yeah, meant I agreed with the Warner part. Personally I'd have Watson opening with Cowan.

Yes that sounds better. Dump both and give Voges and or Bailey a go. I know Bailey hasn't averaged all that much but I reckon he can build an innings and make a go of it given the opportunity. Not sure on Usman has no second gear.

I'd like to see Bailey given a go too, but at 5 or 6 with Watson opening, but that doesn't really solve our number 3 spot.
I think it is still a choice between Khawaja and Hughes. Perhaps second gear might be less of an issue behind crease occupation in England (within reason of course)?

Yeah good point Flying High. We'd take a slow 40 rather than 4/40.

Chris Rogers to be named in the squad.

Not necessarily. Haddin is looking like getting a gig in the middle order for mine with Wade to keep on keeping on. That's how bad our batting stocks are at the moment. We are going to get knocked over for under 250 in at least one innings of each test IMO. Some of the second innings totals are going to make us look like the West Indies.......................of 2007.
