It shows he can bat, but not when it matters the most.

Brod, do you have his career 1st vs 2nd innings first class stats? (I had to manually click on games in cricket archive to find those)

At least he does make SOME runs, unlike any other native South Australian batsman!
Who else in the SA team has made four 50's in his last five matches?

If others had been given the same golden ticket they might off as well

You can't deny his terrible first innings performances mean he shouldn't be in the side especially considering how the shield points system works

Yes, there are more points for outright results than for first innings results. As such, second innings runs are vital. ;)
True, he has not made first innings runs lately but then again, who has?? At least Ferg has been making runs at some stage - why not drop the rest of the batting lineup? They have made less than Ferg overall.

Cheers

Of those 10 matches
- 7 were lost outright
- 9 had a deficit of over 100 runs on the first innings
- 5 had a deficit of over 200 runs on the first innings

It is also 17 matches since our last outright win (Nov 2010 in Hobart). Our last outright win at Adelaide Oval was the first game of the 2009/10 season.

no wonder klinger carried on like a **** idiot when we won the ryobi earlier this year!

Bulldogproud,

His first innings stats would be worse than all of them and secondly how many times does the team who loses first innings go on to win outright. I reckon the percentage would be very low

Reminds me of Matty westoff does sweet fa when the games on the line but bobs up in the last ten minutes of the game to kick a couple.

But hey at least ferguson gun second innings help stop the opposition from getting 4 points oh wait oops the two points they get against us in the first dig is enough to keep them above us on the ladder for the rest of the year anyway

You can't drop Ferg for lack of first innings runs when the spuds around him do exactly the same......

What really gives me the poos is we let a bloke like Cosgrove go because of discipline and mainly fitness issues yet a first class spud pin up boy get a golden ticket.

They might as well go down to santos stadium and pick the bloody side as being able to play cricket doesn't seem to be a requirement.

What inflated egos SACA have thinking we don't need a decent cricketer because he eats to many hamburgers and drinks abit to much. This coming from the state whose cult hero is nicknamed boof

You can blame the media for Cossie's exile. That mixed with an off year with the bat forced them to bow to public perception.

Get the cheque book out, we have seen what Hughes has done, I couldnt give a toss if there were no South Aussies in the team, if they are not good enough we need to recruit more.
Steve Smith would have been a good start

Only need another 205 to win.

Before today Mennie had scored 65 first class runs, currently is 65*

Before today Mennie had not hit a FC boundary (four or six), today 8 fours, 3 sixes

This is Sheild stats for SA ONLY
Will put them up on Stats thread in full, but an overview (apart from him having some poor stats) is
1st Inn
1747 @ 31.20 (3x100, 11x50)
2nd Inn
1893 @ 44.02 (4x100, 9x50)

Set the scene in first few games
2, 46
27, 93
3, 0
0, 103
