Doug is a great new ball bowler. Makes the batsman play at just about every ball.

Once again we see the referral system used simply because the best batsman in the team hopes the umpire made a mistake. It's not why the system was introduced, and it really needs an overhaul.

Thought exactly the same
But after thinking about it I changed my mind about the best batsman bit
He has had plenty of starts, and plenty of opportunities this tour to dominate the Aussies
Bye Yousefs standards a dissappointing tour

if any teams #11 came in as night watchman, & survived, then the next morning got out early dubiously, do you think any side would use their appeals?
It does seem to be used as a safety net for the best batsman only.
I think every batsman has 3 reviews to be used per calendar year- 3 more than they had previously, & it might teach them not to waste it.

Anybody here the least bit surprised by what Greig just said about Kumble, and the way he used the referral system? Not me, that's for sure.

My thoughts about the referral system is it should be used by umpires only. However, if they MUST allow the players a review, and it is to prevent the "howler", then they should have only referral per team per innings. They get it wrong, that's it. My reasoning is, if something is "obviously" incorrect (a howler), then they should have no hesitation in calling for a referral.

As it stands now, they have little committee meeting trying to decide if it is the right time to call for one, followed by the mandatory seven replays, after which we see the discussion between the umpires, and 90+% of the time the initial decision remains.

All it achieves is slowing down a game that is already suffering from slow over rates.

Forget about the Big Bashers, Strath Greyhounds is where the Action is tonight Mal, also the 11 races there may be could act as a substitute for the lack of suitable S.A. trot races for you to bet on this weekend. ;)
