A good start this, Renshaw has played well. This pitch looks like shite, there will be potholes in it by tea.

Bombers4EVA wrote:Probably would. Just remember though. I am only making a statement of what I believe. We come across as very pussy like when it comes to playing against spin. We are very tentative at making shots against a spin bowler compared to pace bowlers. The batsmen are professionals and that is what they do every day. They train for hours in the nets and play games on weekends. But when it comes to playing against spin we fall to shite. And then we say we are ordinary against teams with high quality spinners.

Pace is relatively predictable, a good spinner will drift the ball in the air one way and you can't even tell which way it will spin once it hits the deck until it actually hits the deck.
80-90kmph is still very little reaction time.

He continues to impress with every innings he plays. Hopefully he will around for a long time. We need a long term opening pair. Haven't had a really good pair since Langer and Hayden.

Precisely.. people watch the TV and think 80-90 looks very slow, and compare to the "spinners" they face at community level, not realising that the "spinners" they face are prob 20kph slower.

Nah gave up cricket years ago. Had to make a choice? Either cricket or footy. Chose the better option. Plus, I think was better at footy than cricket.

Needs to use his feet. Can't be caught with no foot movement or he'll soon be walking back to the rooms.

Bombers4EVA wrote:Spin is spin. You have more time to place your feet and settle to play the shot. Comparing to pace.

For the cricket novices out there, explain how you use your feet to spinners..

I don't have footwork. I just swing and hope to hit it. But from what I see on tv. They try to get the front foot at the fall of the ball depending on where the ball is pitched.

Warner and Rogers were pretty handy.

Agree though, Renshaw is the rock at the top of the Australian order that we need.

"Using your feet" to spinners is both backwards and forwards - that's why the really good players of spin are light on their feet and their footwork/decision making is so good - it's either coming down the track to the balls that are tossed up a bit more, or going back and playing deeper in the crease when required for those that are flatter and quicker.

Too many people think "using your feet" is just skipping down the wicket every ball and looking to whack over mid on.

Obviously trapped on the crease is when there is no positive footwork in either direction - usually half a step back, half a step forward and end up where they started.
