Rain ?
OR

CURATOR
Did the curator produce a very very nice batting deck ?
1097 runs
24 wickets [and 1 was on default for the ill Casson]
4 days cricket

KING WILLIAM ROAD PITCH
I cant understand it
For Test matches the logic is makem go the distance with goodish batting decks and get 5 days full of crowds
But why are we often getting these absolute roads for SS cricket ?
Is this for the benefit of the 500 people who rock up and get in for free ?
The Late David Hookes once told me that SA will always struggle to win Sheffield Shields becoz of the decks

2011 SS WINNERS
FFS TA won a SS last season because they produced home minefieldish type decks
Simple logic , on those decks TA were getting 6 points for winning
What did SA get for winning this game, was it 2 points ?

WHAT NOW
Car park fees and flattish decks have eroded my enthusiasm these days to watch SS cricket
No wonder the SA public adore 20/20 games, its a result irrespective of pitch bias

Being saying it for years MAL, you are spot on.
Would love to see the stats on which Aussie grounds produce the most outrights.
It seems like Bellerive gets a fair ammount of matches with results. Even if Tassie only win half their home games outright they nearly would pick up enough points to play in the final.
Now SA is more competitive id love to see the Adelaide deck spiced up a little

MAL - park your car at the entertainment centre, catch the tram and wander down king william to the oval, only $2 to park your car and ride on the tram
Matty Wade is a star and deserves more respect from the forum family!

I understand where everyone is coming from and the pitch was a road.
But if we had taken some of our half opportunites and taken the new ball at over 80 instead of over 111 we may have been able to trouble the batsman more. Also bowling on the offside would help.

That is true, still should have won this one if we hold our catches. But the fact remains at Adelaide Oval we are not going to be in such a good position very often, I would think there will be lucky to be more than 1 or 2 outrights from our remaining 4 games, meanwhile a few other grounds will get a result nearly every game.

I reckon that most of the SS pitches in Adelaide have been fairly good, this one, no, I agree. we seemed to get rolled a few times pretty easily over the years. Most reward good bowling and batting

Agree with mal and the subsequent posts, the Adelaide Oval deck is a disgrace. Here's an incredible idea, how about preparing a pitch that MIGHT OFFER A RESULT!!!!!!!!!!!! Freaking heck how hard can it be, I'm sick of the roads game in, game out.

I have a simple rule when it comes to cricket. Can a good bowler bowl a good spell and get wickets? Can a good batsman bat well and make runs? If the answer to either is no, it's a bad pitch. A good pitch means from first ball to last, the batsman can score runs if he bats well and a bowler can take wickets if he bowls well. AO sees too many sessions where a bowler has to wait for a mistake rather than bowling well to get wickets. It promotes crap cricket and doesn't develop good first class and test cricketers.

Followed the game pretty closely and have a couple of observations (ecuse the length of this post)
1) The pitch was prob a bit flat but 3rd and 4th day bowling you would hope to be able to exploit a wearing pitch. To do this you need someone with pace, a quality spinner, and to hold your catches. the redbacks have a very poor looking pace attack, with no Genuine pace, they will struggle to get 20 wkts alot Id say. Spinner looks ok and battled hard, and the catching was terrible.
2) Klingers Captaincy was good and liked him starting up Christian and Putland to the 2 leftys. Also had to enforce follow on which was good decision. Putland swings them away from the leftys with the new ball and christian is a genuine seemer toward slips to the left handers. A couple of times however I dont think klinger put their foot on the throat when needed. Take the following example in the second innings (Commentary attached below). First over and Christian was all over maddinson and had him dropped on the last ball. The next two overs Christian bowled to Hughes without event. In the 7th over with the new ball Christian had the opportunity to bowl again to maddinson and Klinger bought on George. This may only seem a small thing but Maddinson is under pressure and by bringing on a change we let him off the hook. Also brining Harris on for an over before tea at one stage when they were under pressure in their first innings..Not good enough, if you were a NSW shield batsman this is the ideal scenario. just my opinion but these little moments in a game are vital.

2nd Over
Over 1.6: Christian to Maddinson, no run, leaves outside off - NSW 0/0 when it could well have been 1/0. Back in 30 minutes for the middle session
Over 1.5: Christian to Maddinson, no run, edges again, well short of the first of two gully fielders
Over 1.4: Christian to Maddinson, no run, defends to the bowler
Over 1.4: Christian to Maddinson, no run, plays in defence to the bowler
Over 1.3: Christian to Maddinson, no run, yorker length, digs it out to the bowler
Over 1.2: Christian to Maddinson, no run, leaves outside off
Over 1.1: Christian to Maddinson, no run, DROPPED, drives and edges low to Cooper who puts down the chance at 2nd slip

4th Over
Over 3.6: Christian to Hughes, no run, short outside off - NSW 0/4 following on
Over 3.5: Christian to Hughes, no run, defends off the back foot to the bowler
Over 3.4: Christian to Hughes, no run, hits a nicely struck cut shot to cover point
Over 3.3: Christian to Hughes, no run, leaves one alone outside off
Over 3.2: Christian to Hughes, (no ball) two runs, forces off the back foot through the covers
Over 3.2: Christian to Hughes, no run, leaves outside off

6th Over
Over 5.6: Christian to Hughes, two runs, drives away through the covers - 0/6 Hughes 4 Maddinson 1
Over 5.5: Christian to Hughes, no run, guides a short one to gully
Over 5.4: Christian to Hughes, no run, plays off the back foot
Over 5.3: Christian to Hughes, no run, leaves outside off
Over 5.2: Christian to Hughes, no run, short, hits a very hard cut shot to cover point
Over 5.1: Christian to Hughes, no run, worked off the pads to square leg

Over 7.1: George to Maddinson, no run, leaves outside off

Bookmark all you like. Even if you win in Sydney we've still won 46 Shields and the Redbacks will continue to be Australian Cricket's recycling centre because of your woeful district cricket set up. It's all about us and you all know it.
