Maybe I'm extremely ignorant, but we don't boo opposition players when they come down the race in Australia do we (aside from Harby)? Punter has really copped it on his way out.

Nah we just call them wankers.... Richard Hadlee anyone....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

If Ponting used a 2nd appeal on day one that would have soaked up all the appeals [2 as mighty tiger posted] imagine if North was given out wrongly and had no right of appeal ?

Then its lop sided in favour of whoever opens the batting followed by 3-4-5-6 etc in the batting order ?

Also is it in the teams best interest if the Bradman of the team used up all the less than 50/50 appeals as well ?

Dont get me wrong I like the fairness of the system, its just that the higher order batters may be advantaged compared to the mid order, keeper and bowlers

you get 3 unsuccesful appeals so if ponting uses two unsuccessfully he will wont be very popular with anyone else...sucessful appeals arent deducted

Didnt take long
The SA top order used up all the appeals
Bowler Paul Harris was given out LBW North
The ABC radio commentators said the ball was clearly missing all 3 stumps
Harris had no appeal process and must feel ripped off

Somehow it should be an equal process for all batsman,

Should be UNLIMITED referrals.
It's more important to get decisions RIGHT than worry about losing a bit of time.

Could also fine the players 5 % of their match fee for every unsuccessful referral to eliminate the frivolous ones.

OR

Could just scrap the referral system all together as it's obviously NOT working in the Windies v Eng test atm.

Are you kidding me? Unlimited referrals would mean every 3 balls.

As much as I loathe Peter Roebuck, he made a very good point last night. There was a huge appeal that went up when Hughes may have gloved the ball through to the keeper. No referral was made, and Roebuck asked, "well if they didn't think he was out, why did they appeal?".

Unlimited referrals? You would spend half the day waiting for 3rd umpire decisions, and the day's play wouldn't finish until 11pm.

Obviously have not been watching the Windies Vs England series, some terrible decisions being made by the third umpire. So the problem is they are not getting these decisions right even when they are referred.

Its a joke.

Good bowling by Siddle and Johnson to put SA on the back foot, A brilliant innings by AB Devilliers, he really has come on in leaps and bounds in the last year and a half and i expect it to continue, he has spoken about his wish to become the worlds best batsmen and bat at number 4 eventually and IMO we saw why his goal might come true eventually yesterday.

Good to see Hughes get a decent start although he should have been given out caught behind early. Looking forward to tomorrow.

Need quick runs today..
Ponting will want more than 414 after what happened in Perth and hint of rain/bad light around give his young bowlers time

Did they say that after their 6th ot 7th look at the replay?

I just love the way commentators agonise over a decision having watched it about 5 times from 3 different angles, and then when they finally make their mind up it was "probably" out, they then chastise the umpire for making a poor decision

The reality is that it was a poor decision, If the ball hits him outside of the line then it should not be given out. No one said umpiring was easy but it was the wrong decision, simple as that.

Two more short days means not enough time to win this test match. :(

Which would suck a super amount of ass.

M.North 117 and 1/29 - Not a bad debut at the moment.
P.Hughes 0 and 36* - Hopefully he can keep going in this innings and put together a decent score.
B.Hilfenhaus 1/58 so far - Has been reasonable ok so far. Looking forward to him bowling again.
M.Johnson 96* and 4/25 - Pretty good.at the moment. Really turning in a supurb alround cricketer.

The Australian performance has been very good so far, on the back of a great M.Johnson allround effort and some good batting from North as well.
Read my reply. It is directed at you because you have double standards

does that beg the question 'not enforcing the follow on could hurt us?'
if the weather was predicted for rain, maybe sending them back in and leaving us to bat on the 5th day wicket if needed wouldnt have been a bad thing?
hopefully the weather doesnt play a part and we should be fine either way

Has Australia enforced the follow on since that day in India?
If they have itis not a regular accurance as it stuffs the bowlers up

I think Punter made the right decision but he has to make another one to win this test. Punter has to time the declaration just right here. I hope he isn't spooked by that successful chase down in Perth because the conditions look a lot trickier here. I think anything over 330 to 350 tops will be a tough ask.

fair enough REB but im just worried that they might be spooked by that day in perth. if they chase over 330 on this wicket though we dont deserve to win IMO.
