South Africans as much as they appear big, strong and arrogant they are weak as p*** when put under the pump in Cricket and often in other sporting fields.

These blokes rolled over today to let a side put on almost 6 runs an over for a whole day. We sent sides to the sub continent with Blocker Wilson as the front line bowler due to injuries in 96 and we didn't disgrace ourselves anywhere near like these blokes did today. Game won't last 4 days.

Losing Philanderer before the start would've hurt big time, Kallis was bowling well until he broke down & Steyn just added to their woes. Didn't help bowling on an absolute road either, BTW, I think this no runner rule is a joke, Chappelli's take on it was spot on.

You raise some good points but coughing up runs like that is a disgrace for 6 hours especially if you are regarded as the best side in world cricket on paper.
This looks like a typical Adelaide Oval beauty and after day 3 it will start playing some tricks to the bats. Only chance these blokes have is to knock us over for under 540 and then bat for 5 sessions but I can't see that happening...

The rule was brought in to stop blokes like Ranatunga asking for a runner due to cramp and being unfit

Surely they can show some discretion and allow a runner to those who are genuinely injured during a match.

The Clarke innings and that magnificent day 1 total was that good it relegated Kurt Tippett off the back page of the Advertiser today

A wise man once said, never judge a wicket until both teams have batted. (Granted SAF bowling was not up to Test Standard)

More grass on the wicket than in previous years, i reckon this will be an absolute road, and not break up as much as people think.

Batting practice IMO

Some horrendous field placings didnt help either - how about packing and offside field and bowling to it,? esspecially when you are 1.5 bowlers down and struggling

He suggested that the match referee should make the decision of how legitimate the claim of injury is.

The way the Saffers bat they won't be likely to get to that many until some stage on Sunday.

True! In saying that though the square wickets are as short as any boundary in the history of test cricket and the outfield is lightning!!

ABC radio also discussed the very same idea. Maybe a listener stole it from Chappeli....

Clarke gone

Funnily enough for all the rage about the Aussies yesterday we are probably just on par for what history says is a standard first innings at AO

At least Clarke will be more attacking with his field placings than Smith was yesterday.
