With the spinners role (outside of the asian countries) an underused one, I would sooner see Smith play, because he will bat at 8, MJ at 9 bowling first change, with Hilf/Siddle/Bolly fighting out the last two.

What is great about AUS bowling is the depth.

In the current side, you have WATTO (all rounder), Kat, Clarke and North all part time spin, all having a test five-for.

The opening bowlers are the worry.

Clarke's in horrible form, no doubting that.

But even in horrid form he's better than the SPUD NORTH. Look at his dismissal, what a joke.

Not questioning that but was Clarkes any better

Bring back the Bingle, she was his rock.
Hang on, no she wasn't, the rock was flushed down the toilet.

I'll pay attention for you- instead of just having it as background noise.

Just said 9 overs to go.

Clarkes dismissal was just as bad. If he is the future captain we are stuffed. Ponnting needs to stay for a while yet. Really rate Paine he is far superior gloveman to Haddin and is a solid batsman. Our batting very fragile at moment 1 fa becomes 3 or 4 fa very quickly. Give khawaja or fergie a crack.

Also heard an interview and Aussies could drop to 4th and possibly 5th with 2-0 loss. Disgraceful

5-178 (72* Ponting, 19* Paine) 50 stand up.

Lead 164

And as I type, Zaheer Khan gets Punter out LBW 6-181

This will bring MJ in, so we're either going to get a 200+ lead by stumps, or at least one more wicket.

Horrie will hang around, but not make many, then the bunny Hughhefnerhaus, and the ferret, George.

150 lead not much if Sehwag gets goin. Could be over by lunch.
A fit Siddle is the key to our bowling as well as a decent spinner. Please give smith a crack.

Agree Jim, and if they don't play the spinner as a key bowler (just the occasional "for the sake of playing a spinner" role), then at least Smith bats a bit, and is a gun in the field.

Pontings third dismissMAL in the seventies this tour (so three out of four digs). Not a bad warmup to the ASHES.

Reverse swing playing a part now, could be all out today.

7 overs to go.

6-181 still.
