Your right it isn't, but it doesn't guarantee a win either ... no doubt it's 50-100 more than we wanted.

yeah if was a betting man (which i am) i think the most realistic outcomes at this exact point are an England win or a draw.

Hopefully im wrong.

Aus 0/17

Hughes 13
Katich 0

England bowlers already look like there focussing to much energy on the short ball to Hughes and have no interest in the good line or length, hopefully this is a sign of things to come.

Phil Hughes is a special talent. I have rated him from when i first saw him a couple of years ago and he just keeps getting better and better. He will be a once in a generation cricketer. He will become as good as anyone we have seen in the last thirty years. He is going to take the Poms apart i reckon.

With a bit of luck the Poms will show the same lack of respect that the Proteas did before he scored 2 centuries. ;)

I can see the Poms dropping their heads quite quicly if the openers get a really good start. Conversely we don't want punter in too early because his early innings form is always shaky.

The bowlers are all under done and it showed. Dont blame any one, except for the guy who singed off on the ridiculous tour program. Two tour games isnt nearly enough, Hilf, M.J and Sidds going to into their 1st Ashes tour with one game under their belt. Lets not forget our media was very critical of England when they toured OZ last time with limited games ,I think they had a one day game against PM,s XI a 3 day game and a 4 day game.
I know the 20/20 was on but surely we could of fitted in a one day match or two just to get another bowl under our belts even if its only 10 overs.

Lunch

0/39 good start

Hughes 28
Katich 6

When will commentators get over Hughes's unorthodox technique and give him credit where credit is due.

I find him a batsmen who is very much in touch with his natural game, and knows his strengths and weakness's perfectly. IMHO it is the most crucial aspect to any batsmens game, and he has his down pat.

whufc wrote:He did take 3/95 in the first innings of a test match, an average of just over 30 (if all the bowlers did that we would have bowled them out for 300) for a spinner is not to bad.

He took more wickets and a better economy than Siddle, who alot of people thought bowled well.

To be honest i don't think he bowled "that" bad

I think you've got to have the variety of a spinner in your team unless it's a pitch like the WACA, even if that spinner is not as skilled as you'd ideally want. Yes, the Windies got away with it but, let's be honest, Hilf/Johnson/Siddle/Clark don't hold a candle to Marshall/Holding/Garner/Walsh or any other combination from 1978-1995.

I didn't think it possible, but the Poms bowled worse than we did.

Surely Flintoff has to be a better new ball option than Broad?

Pretty boring session, 130+ runs and 3 wickets.... 8)

Deck looks good, we gotta bat deep into tomorrow possibly into day four before this deck starts to deteriorate.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I cant belive Broad is playing. Everytime I have watched him bowl he has been trash. Surely Harmison or Onions, and Sidebottom ( he may be injured not sure ) would of been better options. He may prove me wrong but I doubt it. Harmison is the weapon they have up there sleeve for later in the tour.

yeah totally agree, i think England are saving Harmison for a pitch which will take more bounce and pace, then they will unleash him IMHO.

He is bowling with some serious wheels as well. Good bowling to dismiss Hughes.
