Great result there for Australia.

Tied Pieterson up - made him earn his 100. Maybe he should have tried to break out a bit to push the rate along.

Great efforts by Ponting and Clarke to put us in a winning position. Kept turning the strike over, unlike england in their innings. Costly for the Poms.

Good captaincy in the power play stage by Punter - but wouldn't like to try the Clarke experiment again.

Hodge might be in danger of missing out to Johnston or Clark in next match.

Well earned win by the boys.

Heres some observations on the game:

HAYDEN howzzzzzzzzzzat LBW appeal not out on 0
hawkeye = out
maleye = about 80% out

GILCHRIST howzzzzzat LBW appeal not out on 4
hawkeye = out
maleye = 60 % out

The other 3 LBW appeals were not out in the AU innings

game over [ha ha piss of poms]

PIETERSON catches ROY takes 5 steps after the catch then steps over the boundary line
NOT OUT
Yet fielders take catches for 1 step throw the ball in the air and its out other times

HODGE continues the non outs of number 7s for AU in the world cup :wink:

The turning point of this game was EG was 2/163 of 29.1 overs + cruising
PIETERSON smashes a pull shot which hits Umpire Rudi in the shins at square leg
The ball would have gone for 4
EG = 2/167 in 29-2
Instead a single only 2/164 of 29-2
Next ball BELL out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EG didnt get the breaks [ha ha]

VAUGHAN the worlds most over-rated o/d batsman FAILS AGAIN
STRAUSS FAILS again

MAHMOOD + ANDERSON get a game before PLUNKETT [dumb]

Good sign for AU is the emergence of ROYS batting, a big un is coming.

AU too good

AU too good

Couple of things. If an umpire has any doubt whatsoever he must give the batsman not out. There was a litlle bit of doubt about the LBW's you questioned therefore they were rightly given not out.

Secondly how can someone who no-one rates be the most overrated o/d batsman in the world?

Thats what I meant. Flintoff is the most overrated bastman in world cricket, in any form of the game. He's not a bad bowler, ok fieldsman.

The catch was not out because.....it's the rules. You have to have control over the ball AND your body. He couldn't keep himself in the field of play so he didn't have control of his own movements. In 5 steps he should have been able to throw it to another fieldsman who could have caught t legally so long as Pietersen didn't leave the field of play before releasing it.

I for one think there are too many LBW decisions given. Hawkeye gives the batsman out if the ball clips the stumps and everyone says it's a good decision if given, and a bad one if not given. I think if you need hawkeye to tell you the ball is going to hit the stumps it should be not out. Also think the international umpires have a bit of a problem with the ball pitching outside leg and going over the top. Should be NO doubt about all the relevant criteria being satisfied IMHO.

FREDDY FLINTOFF

TEST CRICKET

BOWLER ABOUT 7/10 great 1st change bowler
BATTER ABOUT 3/10 not a number 6

OD CRICKET

BOWLER ABOUT 8.5/10 brilliant economy and takes vital wickets
BATTER ABOUT 5/10

Not over-rated PAFC
Very good bowler
Handy hard hitting batsman

In the genuine allrounder spieces
Would make the team as a bowler
But not as a batter

VAUGHAN

TEST BATSMAN 8/10 plays some extraordinary big match winning innings, but hit or miss
O/D BATSMAN 4/10 very very ordinary and a passenger too often
