First Class Cricket Talk (International and State)

Postby Punk Rooster » Sun Feb 04, 2007 10:37 pm

Tait showed the rest of Australia what he can do today, Hogg showed everyone in Australia (including me) why he deserves a chance.

But Jaques hit 321no off 281 balls in club cricket, something like 34 fours and 12 sixes, so the Sydney Media will start there campaign to get Jaques included in the squad

Sutherland vs North Sydney
Sutherland made over 500 for the day on North Sydneys small oval. North Sydneys attack must be ordinary.

Tait's bowling was even more impressive considering the economy rate of the other Australian quicks today

yes, that's more the angle I was looking at- he was tight (1/26) when others were being belted.
The 150km/h+ was icing on the cake.

JAQUES said there was something in the pitch for the bowlers.
I believe Victor TRUMPER holds the grade record in Sydney.

For those who cant remember TRUMPER he was an opening
batsman who played 100 years ago.
He is considered one of the greatest opening batsman in history.
There is a famous picture of him playing a drive with his
elongated backlift, oh to go back through the Time Tunnell and
marvel at our champion cricketers of the Victorian era.

I don't know what his one-day record is, but someone told me the other day that in 35 Tests as captain, Ponting has only won the toss 12 times.

It was confirmed by Healy yesterday just how highly batsmen around Australia rate Tait. He's clearly the most exciting quick prospect seen in this country for many years. How people can rate Johnson and Hilfenhaus ahead of him is a mystery to me.

Agree with Richie Benaud for the fact that because Hogg is not in the side just means that he's an absolute certainty to go to the Carribean.

One thing the selectors will have to consider for the WI tour is
the likelyhood of abrasive pitches which will scuff up the new balls.
Now being a great quick bowler myself, that means shining one
side of the ball that will create reverse swing in the mid to late overs.
TAIT gets reverse swing, which will be in the selectors minds.

Hopefully Tait has booked a spot on the World Cup tour. I'd have him replace Clark, who hasn't performed that well at ODI level.

Did anyone see the 2 different versions of hawkeye predictions when michael clarke got that LBW...ive always been a bit suss of this things but now im convinced...first version had the ball swinging after it pitched and snicking the off stump where as teh second saw the ball go on straight to hit middle and off... it is a joke!!

=D> =D> =D>

yes i saw that as well, i thought that was dodgy, HAWKEYE giving two different interpretations of the same ball. maybe they should have put it up a third time and we would have seen the ball just clipping leg stump.

im guessing that channel 9 would be hoping no-one noticed!!!!!!!!

tait is a throwback to the 70s + 80s of very very fast bowlers.

it was great to see him perform the way he did, he certainly made up for the other night against the poms.

we had two speedsters of 150km+, actions are both questionable from a side on visual, but one was once again SPRINKLING them all over the place, it was like a LEEk.

Apparently they can apply Hawkeye to which ever camera angle they want and as it was pointed out by one of the commentators last night, not all the down the ground cameras at each end are directly in line because they have to be side by side (unless they mounted* one camera on top of the other or had it one level down!). Given that and the fact they are recording from high up, it would be reasonable to assume there is some "guesstimation" despite how technically good the hawkeye program might be.

THEN THE answer is for channel 9 to get camera's in line from a high vantage point
