What bollocks. There is no secret to weight loss. Exercise more and eat less fatty foods and decrease your sugar intake. If you can't be stuffed (poor choice of words perhaps) then fair enough but don't give us that bullshit about it being a disease.

Mate, I am overweight as well and you are quite right, it is easy to sit back and say it is not a disease. However it is even easier to suggest that it is a disease rather than putting up your hand and saying 'hang on, I drink too much piss and I'm still eating like a teenager even though I'm forty (that's how old I am, I obviously are not aware of your vintage)'. I respectfully agree to disagree with you on this one grub and I wish you well in all of your attempts to drop a few kilos.

Cheers,

Ok ag so you say that being overweight is a disease. If so Cossie has had far more assistance that most people his age with the same "disease". He has chosen time and time again to disregard the help offered. How do i know this you may ask. Well just look at his size. He is clearly obese. There are plenty of people who have weight issues and i don't for one second pretend that those who do are lazy or deserve it. Cossie is in a unique situation where he has at his disposal the best possible resources to overcome his "disease". I am sure that thousands of people with the same "disease" as Cosgrove would give anything to have the support and assistance that he does to overcome it. I'm also sure that there are thousands of people who work a lot harder on every aspect of cricket who wish they had the talent he has.

All said and done ag, you still have a go at Greg Blewett, who despite his flaws, at 35 presents himself in better shape than most people could ever imagine being in. Personally i'd pick a fit 35 year old who has proven himself at the top level, over a fat 22 year old who'd be more comfortable eating hotdogs and hides behind his weight issues claiming all sorts of excuses yet doing nothing about them.

Spot on REB, I'm overweight only because I eat and drink too much (energy in) compared how much exercise I do (energy out). Simple maths if your energy in is greater than what you put out, you are going to put on weight.....

If you want to lose weight you eat smarter (less of it and more of the better foods) and do more exercise. The only slight way it can be considered a disease is if you have a low resting metabolic rate - the amount of energy you burn maintaining life functions i.e. breathing, heart pumping, etc ( some people have lower rates than others) However if you exercise regularly and eat smarter a low metabolic rate ceases to be a significant issue in weight loss.

Seriously people who think it is a disease are copping out, hey i'm with the majority too and only because I'm a lazy F**K.

Back to the point at hand, Cossie, is wasting a career through his training habits. I've already made several posts on this amtter. Seriously if he is not careful in 10 years he is going to be a question on the underneath of a West End bottle top and everyone is going to say, "Do you remember that fat bastard who should have played for Australia."

He is the fattest cricketer in Australia since Danny Buckingham and Richard Soule....and their careers went nowhere....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I've read some funny things on this forum, but saying being overweight is a "disease" is right up there. If you are overweight, then diseases may be a bi-product (Diabetes, etc), but as correctly stated earler, if a person chooses to eat poorly and not exercise, then they will be at risk of being obese.

I have no problem with the man in the street being a few kilos overweight. I DO have a problem with elite "athletes" being overweight. With the amount of physical work a professional sportsman has to endure, it shouldn't be too hard keeping the weight down unless their diet is an absolute disgrace.

Weight loss, especially for athletes, is pure common sense. All it requires is some self discipline, which is obviously something we cannot expect from Mark Cosgrove, and that is why he will never become the cricketer we all suspected he could have been.

I feel that the selectors have to persevere with the likes of Daniel Harris and Ryan Harris and Callum Ferguson as well for that matter and while I can understand the dismay as to why Nathan Adcock has not been picked for 4 day games, I think he is 29 now (which I know is not old), has been given numerous opportunities in the past and since he has done so well for himself outside of cricket, I don't know if his heart is really in it.
From the bowling point of view, Cullen hasn't had a great year, Bailey can't seem to get a game and Rofe was had only taken 9 wickets at 43 before he was injured/dropped.

Interesting to read in today's Advertiser that Robert Craddock actually wrote an article pushing the case of the great man in the Australian side. Thought it was interesting that he insinuated that the selectors love him but why is it then that there seems to be this notion out there to look for excuses not to pick him. Craddock nominated six bowlers that were ahead of him but without any bias, I think he's the best one going around at the moment that isn't named McGrath, Lee or Clarke and is almost on a par with Bracken in the one day arena (ahead of him for Test duty). I guess time will tell but I was hoping he might have got a gig for tomorrow but I guess he has just come back from a hamstring injury but he couldn't have done any more than he has.

Would have loved to have been a fly on the tree to hear what Ian Chappell had to say to the boys yesterday. While I'm sure Ian wouldn't have been pushing anything that was earthshattering, I've always enjoyed his views on Cricket.

That reminds me of the story Neil Harvey tells about when he was on tour with the Invincibles in 1948. He was having a run of low scores early on and kept getting caught. He asked Sam Loxton to get some adivce from Don Bradman.

Loxton came back and said to Harvey, "If you don't want to get caught, don't hit the ball in the air".

I love this story because at a time where professional sportsmen are searching for complicated answers, sometimes the simple solutions are best, and Bradman's comment reminds us all that cricket is a lot more basic than we sometimes allow it to be.

Similar response to what Bradman gave when he was asked how he was never hit on the gloves. He responded that you don't get hit if you don't miss the ball.
