No worries trigger. The ball was moving all over the place and surely there was an issue with the height? You should apply for a job on the umpiring panel...you'd fit right in.

Give him a go Hawker. Batting at seven in an ODI would be a pain in the ar5e. I reckon he can bat.

I reckon he can bat as well, that was why I made the comment. I could excuse his shot from a tail-ender, but from a player with batting credentials. his shot selection displayed a lack of understanding of the situation he was in.

ive had some experience in umpiring and in my view it was out.

the computer hawk-eye suggested it was going over the top, but it would be hard for an ump not to give ponting out on that one.

thats my view

Actually i would have thought it quite easy to give not out. If there is any doubt the benefit of that doubt has to go to the batsman. I don't think that the umpire could have been 100% certain that Ponting's was hitting.

I have to agree with MT_79 on this one. As soon as Ponting was struck on the pad, I knew he was gone. It looked 100% plumb on TV, and the umpire had a better view than us.

LBWs are quite easy to call. As soon as it hits the pad, you know if its out or not. Its just a gut reaction, which is usually correct. Bat-pad type calls are harder, but the regulation LBW shout is quite easy.

Must admit as soon as I saw it I thought the height was suspect, Hawkeye later reinforced that ... No drama's though, every team has had an iffy one go against them and I wouldn't be an international umpire for quids!
