Correct.. which is why if he gets through this ODI series v Pakistan i wouldn't be surprised if he was included.

Prob play both Wade and either Maxwell/M Marsh too just for the added batting depth.

Maybe S. Marsh comes in to bat at 3 and push blokes down?

Warner
Renshaw
Usman
Smith
Hansdcombe
Head
Maxwell
Nevill
Starc
Hazelwood
Lyon

That's how I'd line them up, go batter heavy with plenty of spin options.

I'd take Bird, the Chadd, Zampa and two Marsh's along for the ride too, I hope we've seen the last of Hilton Cartwheel forever, at least he wore one for his country.

Australian tour of India 2017

Postby bennymacca » Thu Jan 12, 2017 11:18 am

Don't really like head or maxwell being a second spinning option. We need two frontline spinners

The only spot up for grabs is number 6, and potentially khawaja or renshaw if they want to bring in marsh.

Looking forward to watching renshaw bat. Everyone says he might be suspect against spin but he has the right temperament to grind it out if need be.

I still think you need 3x seamers and 2x spinners - so they'll need to pick 4x specialist bowlers and an allrounder..

M Marsh ahead of Maxwell if that's the case.

Unless they do give Handscomb the gloves, then you could potentially play both?

FWIW i dont rate either Marsh or Maxwell lol, but they appear the most liked and best fit for purpose for the tour, unless a Head gets a look in.

His the bloke who plays spin by far the best, i can see him coming in at 2/10 on a few occasions with Renshaw and Khawaja out early. Both Renshaw and Khawaja have huge question marks about their ability to play spin. TBH ill be surprised if both of them see out the series in India.

His the bloke that most likely can hit the "BIG" hundred in India.

I understand why they would be extremely reluctant to move him but i think in Indian conditions he is by far the best number 3 batsmen we have with.

Renshaw is a big lanky bastard. If he can use his lanky-ness to his advantage and sweep well then he could find some sucess out there. Who knows, I think the kid has potential and is worth taking the chance on him. Hes 20 years old, values his wicket. Why not?

I hope your right but even in his 160 he should have been out a couple of times early with regulation edges of the spinner that would have went to a second slip

In India they will have men around the bat swallow them

Do selectors pick the team in the first test with the mind frame of picking the best team to win this test match if your life depended on it or do they have the mind frame of picking a team to try and win but with future of the side in mind as well?

If your life depended on it Marshs sub continent record means he has to come into the side and probably has to bat in your top 3. Who makes way?

I would go-

Renshaw
Warner
Khawaja
Smith
Handscomb
Maxwell/Agar
Nevill- I think Wade would go well with the bat in India because he's the best sweeper in the Australian squad but he'd miss too many chances with the gloves especially when keeping to the spinners. Nevill is a much better keeper.
Starc
O'Keefe
Hazlewood
Lyon

Shaun Marsh
Head
Agar
Cartwright- Instead of Mitch Marsh unless Marsh starts scoring bulk runs and taking bulk wickets in the second half of the shield season.
Bird- Would love to go with Pattinson but he wouldn't be ready.

The two most likely are khawaja and renshaw but both have played well in Australia.

Probably wouldn't hurt renshaws career too much if they dropped him now.

Take Brad Hogg over. He's got the same career potential as the next best spinner after Lyon in the country but has far more ability.

Super excited to see wade miss chance after chance behind the stumps.

Maxwell is the right choice and should play at 6. How on earth mitch marsh gets picked is beyond me he has not done anything at first class level to deserve it. Personally i think the aussies should play all 3 seamers with lyon, maxwell and smith as the spinners. The more spinners you play you just play into indias hand. If hazlewood, starc and bird get the ball reversing its your best way to beat the arrogant bastards.

Maxwells selection is a ******* disgrace, the prick can't even get a SS game!
Head very unlucky, far better batter and bowler than Maxwell but obviously concerns over his batting against spin

If that's the case Henriques was stiff to miss out. Junior is the only bloke who thinks he can actually play!

Head would get eaten alive in india. Just look at the one dayer on friday. Maxwell for all his faults is pretty good at playing spin and i cant see who else deserves to be ahead of him in the subcontinent.
